This volume is kind of like My Side of the Mountain crossed with a JRPG

While the second half of the book certainly has interesting stuff going on... I really do think the book should've been split in half as there's a clear delineation between the first half (finishing off the tutorial) and the second half (post-tutorial training, new character introductions, and returning to Earth).

I'm having a real hard time figuring out how in the world there's still 46% of the book to go. It really seems like it should be over. The bosses have been defeated, the quest is won, the tutorial is over... what else is there?

that was... delightfully anticlimactic

This is looking to be my favorite Dresden novel, Harry is at rock bottom and he's a real mess but it's a surprisingly earnest look at a person trying to get better after a world-destroying personal (and public) tragedy. His frustrated efforts to try and help Chicago get back on its feet mirror his own halting efforts to put himself back together, unclear if either can ever be whole again. Great stuff.

Not as funny or imaginative as Dungeon Crawler Carl but scratches some of the same itch

Something weird I just noticed is that this book says that it's #1 in the Shattered Lands series but it's definitely book 2, the book I finished last week, In the Shadow of Lions, was book 1 of the series.
