People keep saying “Fine,” like sassy sixth graders in this book and it’s pissing me off. It’s the whole performance: rolling the eyes, sighing, and grunting out a resigned “FINE.” I want to tear my hair out??!

NOPE. I’ll come back to this book when I’m stronger.

I’m enjoying this book so far, but I have some thoughts… It feels like Blake created these characters before even thinking up a plot in which to throw them. The whole story so far has been (too many) people trapped in a room bickering. Not even banter, just annoying snide remarks. Too many asides in Blake’s writing also distracts from wtf is going on.

Wasn’t a fan of Ghost Eaters (boring and forgettable characters) but let’s give this one a go!

Giving Razorblade Tear vibes. Grief-Horror at the expense of dead Queers, where we have to put up with the melodramatic prose of their homophobic fathers. Yuck.
That being said, I definitely get satisfaction reading about the main bigot suffer in his grief and guilt. I’ll give this a few more chapters.

Oops, I picked book 3. Oh well. This is my second pick for Target Shelf Romances. I have zero expectations for this one going in.

Big man thinks his atrocious possessive behavior and abusive actions are redeemable because he’s hot and rich, and has daddy issues. Awww he’s so misunderstood.

“I didn’t want her drawing lines when I wasn’t thinking clearly enough to redraw them properly.”

Wow. What a real fucking gentleman.

“Clearly she didn’t know what to say in the face of my flawless male logic.”

I’ve never come across this problem before. It’s usually the other way around…But Lucy Score CANNOT write a male character. Like at all.

Also, every chapter leaves me begging for someone, ANYONE, to please just fucking call HR.

About to start hate reading this 👍🏻

Our main character truly does not care about anyone other than himself. His default reaction to anything is anger. Are we supposed to root for him just because he’s poor? Even after we find out he has a secret stash of life’s savings hidden from his roommates? Even after he pretends he can’t pay the rent and his roommates do everything they can to help him?
I’m rooting for the rich lord love interest.

I think this book single handedly cured my fears of commitment and vulnerability, because I never want to be as obnoxious as the main character.

Ughhhhh.

No hate to this author, because I enjoyed the previous works I read by her. But dude the dialogue in this is driving me crazy. It’s not how people talk. ALSO everyone just seems to be in the right place at the right time. There’s always some stranger who happens upon the sleuthing main character who has ALL the answers. Like, come on.

Not working for me so far. The motives don’t make any sense honestly. I LOVE st. James’s historical fiction, and this modern day story isn’t hooking me yet.

So far this slaps. I love the futuristic French, the catastrophic forces of nature, and dystopian landscape.
It took me a little bit to get used to the narrator’s hive mind.

This book is the perfect example of why I will ALWAYS prioritize indie authors over mainstream. Fuck yeah 👏🏻

Stylistically it’s like reading Frankenstein and Call Of Cthulhu

Genuinely unsettling.

I don’t know anyone’s motives anymore. And Cylvan is this all powerful high fey but he’s absolutely USELESS. If Saffron could stop literally giggling at him like he’s the cutest thing ever, that would be amazing.
