Re-reading on audio in prep for book two 🤗

"Laughlines" — I think this would have been much creepier reading with my eyeballs instead of listening to the audio. Also, the choice to use email here is a bit weird. Text would have been better. As ever though, unhinged. 4/5 stars

My NetGalley app has decided to crap out so switching to another audiobook until it's fixed. Might have to switch to hard copy on this one.

I'm sorry, the color Egyptian Brown paint was made of WHAT?

My brain is v. confused haha. Will Watt is one of my favorite audiobook narrators, but I'm used to him narrating Alexis Hall books. But this is a K.J. Charles book! Get in gear, brain.

"The Lunar Eclipse" — Um, what. I love you, Nat, but huh? Also the sound effects were weird. 2/5 stars

"The Art of What You Want" — I was listening to this while half asleep last night (my right eye was closing without my permission, and that's always a sign), so I'm not actually sure what happened here. But I was awake enough to know that it was fucked up. Will need to reread but I think four stars for now. 4/5 stars

”Nice” — Unhinged Christmas. 4/5 stars

“Elegy” through “Gethsemane”. End of S4.

"Generation" — Ooh, this one was almost sci-fi, and I really liked it. It doesn't get a full five, though, bc I thought the alcoholism angle was unnecessary and weird. If this was adapted from a stage play, it makes sense that the drinking would be a visual cue of Things Being Bad, but here it doesn't really work. We have access to the characters thoughts. Otherwise, great story. 4.5/5 stars

"Meet Cute #1: The Unluckiest Girl" — This is apparently an adaptation of a short play, and there are other stories in here that are also adaptations of his short plays. I did a legit double take while listening to this one, but it was too short for me to really get much out of it other than entertainment. My first non-five star rating for this author! 4/5 Stars

Lord these men are terrible storytellers.

Tor doesn't normally publish books with sewn bindings, but this book has one! They must have used their budget on the binding, because the book's casing is covered in paper. At least it isn't showing my fingerprints.

“Never Again” through “Small Potatoes.” I’m too sleepy to make it to the end of S4.

I definitely prefer two of the timelines to the other one. I hope that one picks up soon.

"Herrenvolk" through "Leonard Betts". Forgot to update this last night before I passed out.

This gets better the more times I read it. This time I’m cracking up at how many spoilers are hidden in the prologue.

“Pusher” through “Talitha Cumi”. End of S3.

This isn't as intriguing as at the beginning. I find stories about infiltration and oh no will they betray this person pretty dull. Go back to the class issues and the unequal distribution of power designed to keep wealth and magic in the hands of the few!!!

Ooh, I've never heard of this one. I should really read more Ann Rule books.

Okay, if I had to describe this book it would be: His Dark Materials meets Doctor Who meets Connie Willis's All Clear duology, with a little bit of Cat Sebastian thrown in.
