This is a good little book so far, but it's far from my favorite T. Kingfisher. The MC is too isolated (her side characters are my favorite!), and the closest thing to an animal companion she has is a (probably) rabid raccoon.

I keep picturing the dragons in houses and wearing like old timey clothes but that’s not right. They are naked and living in caves!! But acting like Regency weirdos who eat each other. (It’s a whole metaphor for class. We’ll talk about it later.)

I had forgotten about 90% of this book, as it turns out. Just completely erased from my memory.

It's amazing how much I've forgotten. I definitely needed to re-read.

I did not expect this book to be largely about wholesome male friendships*, but I am here for it.

*also weird and emotionally stunted, but they are trying so hard

I love the get the gang together aspect of this. A literal murderers row.

I'm just waiting for that Thing to pop into frame. Y'all know exactly what I'm talking about.

the way I cackled just now

This is already one of my favorite things Brandy Sandy has written. No clue what actual percentage I'm at btw. Listening on Apple Books and their displays are lacking to say the least.

I tried valiantly for about an hour this morning to resist starting this and continue on with my sad, infuriating audiobook. As you can see I have now stopped trying.

There is nothing more boring than rich white men.

There is absolutely nothing inherently interesting about these men. I hate them.
