Re-reading this because pride month just finished and pride celebrations are currently going on where I live - additionally, I'm on a bit of a true crime kick. I'll never get over how well this book is written. The way Justin Ling balances respect for the victims and the community who was impacted, with true investigative journalism, is so well done. You can tell it was written by a person from within the community

The blurb actually gagged me so much I made multiple coworkers read it. Excited to get into this!

I wish it was in third person, like Agatha Christie's writing was. I guess it is nice that Sophie Hannah has stuck to her own style of writing (I assume she prefers to write in first person hence the change) and not just tried to copy Agatha Christie's writing style... but perhaps I wish she just did as I do prefer the original 😅. So far other then it being not my POV preference it is very good.

I've been putting this off because I'm weary of it being triggering- but the writing so far is fantastic (as expected- this is well regarded as one of the best true crime books in the last few years)

So far it is good- I am still waiting for the true horror to start.......
I think I may have preferred the setting/ aesthetic of the first book but so far I am still enjoying the world building and set up of this sequel

The narrator (the author) sounds so much like Robin Warder- who hosts a Canadian true crime podcast called The Trail Went Cold that I had to do a double take when I sampled the audiobook. Great voice- very easy to listen to. So far the book is detailed and sincere, going into depth of each of the victims lives and circumstances, and the family and friends left behind.

Immediately the first line is very reminiscent of the infamous beginning lines of Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. What a great start to a book

So far I'm really enjoying this! I love the visuals. Nonfiction books can sometimes be hard to read when I'm struggling with my adhd but the way this is set up is PERFECT.
