Taking a risk with King again… First new book of his I’ve read since 2018. I don’t immediately hate it, so that’s good, right?

Finally.

White supremacists' inferiority complex is telling. When you have to resort to violence to force the "natural order" into being, it doesn't seem very natural at all. It seems like you know that you deserve the retribution you fear, and now you're just trying terrorism to prevent it. But even deserved, it's imaginary. People just want to live.

I don't know if it's because I recently listened to an audiobook read by an Australian, but I am still catching Aussie pronunciations from the reader for Molka here and there. Plus just other odd things. "Testerone" in the audio instead of "testosterone". (I thought I just misheard that one, so I went back and checked again. Yep. TESTERONE. ???)

This audiobook reader sometimes pronounces things so strangely. Some phrases sound… Australian? “Nodded” was said as “noded”. In my Libby app, I had tagged this as ebook preferred which usually means I don’t like the audio reader or sample… but I ignored it. Oh well. We’re in it now.

Run For Your Life - interesting concept and kinda depraved but fun

Goddamn these are dark. Horrifying on multiple levels, and reminding me why I used toto love short stories and make me wonder why I don’t read them much anymore. So good.

Nice - Wasn’t… AT ALL. But in the best way.

The Art of What You Want - Jeeeeeeeeezus. That ending. That WANT. It’s ruthless, and deranged and disgusting and horrifying and also… apt? In a NO THANK YOU way but… dang.

Rest Stop - Wild. Such fun. I’d previously read it, but who’s counting?

Meet Cute #1: The Unluckiest Girl - LITERALLY SHOCKINGLY GOOD. Like… how am I listening to this story, maybe a little bored, but envisioning the scene at the bar, conversation going on… and then the last line hits. And keeps fucking hitting. And the story gets better the more you think about it after it’s over. Amazing.

I’d have made more progress on this except that Control: Resonant came out and consumed my weekend and foreseeable future. 🎮
