The author joined when facebook was just starting out in the 2010s. there has always been a heavy emphasis on growing the business and driving profit, back then Facebook did not have a political arm or even care about being the driving force for the good of the world. This is probably due to Mark's lack of interest in politics.

now things are getting juicy. great description of sheryl and zuck. very funny quip about MZ. her grit and resilience is admirable. also very funny story about top exec at fb meeting german diplomats and says "im jewish" and mentioning topless pictures.

the almost-naked boat party in the prologue was supposed to be enticing, but it is not. not a great start of story telling. how do you make exposing secrets of the rich and powerful boring????

unbearably boring

the communists had it all wrong. it wasnt the rich who were imprisoned by their possessions. it was the poor.

her ex told the security guy nielsen about her traumatic experience with her flat being broken in, major betrayal! we are starting to be familiarised with her dependence on antidepressants.

a woman who gives too much gives the impression that she believes in the man more than she believes in herself. men viewed this as weakness and not kindness.

some women refuse to be paid for. A bitch has no problem and no issues being treated well and she lets a man give and also receive. Thank him politely and graciously. Do not feel guilty or obligated. Do not feel compromised.

in a relationship of any kind, if one person feels the other person isnt bringing anything to the table, he or she will begin to disrespect that person

the only clue to the murder, the mascara, is gone! this def works as an audiobook and would have probably dragged as a book.

seeing the kind of people in the introduction i cant help but think of the people i know in my lives that might need this book

all characters are really well developed. interesting plot lines and palpable emotions even though all they do is sit in the car. this is a 4 star read. the writing style is crass but sophisticated and dynamic and filled with cliches and it's just good.

a slightly alcoholic journalist got the opportunity to go on a luxury yacht to write articles. a few days before she was supposed to board, somebody broke into her house and shes been having ptsd and sleep loss ever since. she even hit her boyfriend, who is a man from brooklyn and wants her to move to the us with him

there's this really great section when he thinks of the family that will be moving into his home, the way that he curses them is very poetic.

charles wang, who owns a makeup empire, is now a povvo. he has to get his wife, barbra and daughter grace to go to saina wang's house (his eldest daughter). writing style is crass, sarcastic, but doesn't have the desired effect for some reason. changes during timelines is not done well (barbra).

plot is great in both book a movie, but there is a big difference in characterization. In the book, Daphne is more outward with her feelings, being the person who led Simon into the garden and initiating the kiss, knowing that he has desires for her. Daphne also has letters from his dead dad, I wonder why this plot wasn't incorporated in the film.

The Bridgerton warms up to Simon much quicker than in the show, they enjoy some kind of boat ride picnic thing together. Anthony also knows about Daphne and Simon's fake relationship very early on. also, Simon doesn't really listen to Daphne and looks at her boobs all the time. Weird.

book is better than the show in portraying complex power dynamic

vivid depiction of her emotions when finding out her husband is a giant piece of shit. i know the bits about her childhood is suppose to give more colours to the book, but i'm not too interested.

in the book, Serena Joy is much older than June

apparently, there is a high volume of immigration into Idaho of all places, Idahoes are not happy about it for some reason, even though there's a need for it because of manufacturing food and potatoes

shonda rhimes was working overtime to make this book into the masterpiece that is the TV series. because this book is so incredibly dull. The writing is not great at all and I could imagine 100 different ways that the author could introduce the Bridgerton family. It is also really weird that Daphne is painted out to be this normal, plain girl whereas in the tv series she is the diamond of the season

The Wickhams are careless spenders, and has the audacity to ask Lizzie for pocket money. The romantic declaration of love that is really famous at the end of the movie is apparently not in the book, the one that says you may only call me mrs.darcy when you're super duper happy or something.

Mr. Darcy actually organizes Lydia's wedding to Mr. Wickham through Gardner, who is like an uncle to the Bennett girls. It is actually not Mr. Bennett who organized all this. The fact that that is not explored in the movie is such an injustice to the intended complicated dynamic from Jane Austen.

okay so now mr wickham is marrying lydia but like how. this specific plot element is just so confusing

The movie doesn't really make clear the circumstances in which Lydia went off with Mr. Wickham. In the book, Lizzie is not at her house for some reason, and it is very common for young ladies so just not be at their house for a few weeks(?) and she receives news of Lydia through mail by Jane.

in the movie, Mr. Bennett thinks that Mrs. Bennett is dramatic and frivolous, but he sees it in an endearing way. In the book, he merely tolerated it and there's no element of love like it is portrayed in the movie. this can be explored as commentary on the patriarchy in the book.

there is a lot more complexity to the book that is not explored by the movie!!!!!!!
