I loved the bit about history of fishing, just a nice casual read with underlying tones of sincerity and seriousness.
Lovely book so far

This was a spontaneous buy from the supermarket with no knowledge that it was a tv show or of who either of them are. The book was purely bought for the nostalgia of fishing.
So far understanding how scary the heart problems are and how they used each other na fishing as an escape is truly inspiring. A casual book with a light hearted and warm feeling

James cook is dead……
The natives tendency for theft was the downfall of the expedition and the eventual lead to his death. Despite countless appeals to the authority of the islands. The overwhelming pressure amounted in an explosion of tension between the natives and the sailors.
Interested to see how his death played out

THEYVE FINALLY LEFT THE PACIFIC ISLANDS!!!!! They’ve made it to the west coast and the area of Nootka Sound known as King George’s sound. The weather is beating them but cook is cool and composed. The variation between indigenous people is fascinating and I’m excited to see how far north they go

Brilliant, very vivid story telling I feel like I’m getting to know the captain more. His lenience on certain matters shows that he’s human. The behaviour of the locals and the savages shows how difficult the expeditions must have been

It has stalled slightly regarding the voyage around Australia currently called New Holland. They have just ran into contact with a tribe off the coast of New Zealand preparing themselves for the big stretch up to North America before the winter sets in. Still very intrigued

After regrettably not reading the authors notes an the prologue, I didn’t understand the context the book was written in. After going back I am really intrigued. With this being the personal log of James cook and not the official journal it seems to show a more personal side and emotional side to the famous captain. Understanding his life and his background. I’m excited to see how their voyage plays out

The mutiny became apparent and I don’t know how I feel in a moral sense. Is it better to want to live and sin ? Or die by the naval code ? The moral ambiguity is my favourite part of this section. The speedwell has just arrived in Brazil and I’m eager to learn of Cheaps fate as Byron could’ve made it to Brazil as well. Was he wrong in trusting his captain ?

Fantastic book, great balance of historical accuracy and story telling. I feel as though the mutiny is on the horizon. How will they get off the island? Will the tribe come back? What will happen to the crew? Can’t stop reading

Very interesting to begin with, would like more character development but the pace is steady and not too rushed. Peter is a character I would like to know more about and more explanation on past and present conditions of living/ the camp
