Brain Activity & Consciousness: Consciousness may arise from brain activity, but evidence such as near-death experiences (NDEs) and terminal lucidity suggests consciousness might not depend entirely on the physical brain.
Dualism: Supports the idea that the mind and body are distinct yet interconnected. Consciousness might not be just a byproduct of physical matter. Jacobson’s Organ (Vomeronasal Organ).

Recommended by the wonderful, Heather Hinkle!

I’ve stayed up wayyyy too late to read this, but I can’t put it down.

Other thoughts: sex ed is so important. I am FURIOUS on behalf of every girl in this book. I’m liking where this is going.

getting sort of preachy. Concept is interesting, but it’s kind of beginning to sound like a Reddit post.

Finally getting to this highly reviewed and recommended read! So far, it’s just ok, but I’ll give it a chance. I’m reading the large print version so I can read it in bed without my contacts, so I predicted I’m about a 1/4th of the way through!

Burnt toast theory, interconnectedness, meaning, purpose… not necessarily what I think heaven will be, but it’s a good story thus far with solid lessons embedded.

Been craving a good YA novel recently. The cover intrigued me because it was similar to something doodled the other day. Lil mystery

Definitely should be doing my schoolwork tbh

The cultural motif of a Faustian bargain in exchange for eternal youth. Idolatry of ignorance, youth, hedonism, and beauty. A picture as a physical manifestation highlighting the inherent dangers of prioritizing aesthetics over morality. Very fitting to read in today’s society. *chef’s kiss*

*juxtaposing comorbidities of various diagnoses while simultaneously ensuring not to overpathologize a normal reaction to an abnormal situation*

Also, everyone should get their blood drawn to discern chemical influence or deficiencies in folate, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, and vitamin D in particular. Ughhhh, I wish I had a massive lab 🥼🔬🧪👩‍🔬

Personal thoughts: I understand youth is fleeting, but so is life. Too many get wrapped up into making an idol out of youth they forget aging is also a treasure that so many do not have to privilege to experience. There is a unique beauty and value in every stage of life.

This book artfully captures a myriad of existential questions. I am enjoying it thus far.

I envy medical professionals who use the ICD-11. I mean, no diagnostic book can truly be perfect or free of bias, but what do you mean C-PTSD isn’t in the DSM-5 TR?!? Also, can’t believe we’ll probably have to wait until 2030 for there to be an update 😭

It started out engaging, but it’s midway through it’s getting harder to read. Patroclus has no personality and his POV is tiresome imo. It reads like a fanfic rather than a legitimate story. How do you make an epic boring?

Been on my TBR for a while & finally getting to it!
Highlights so far: “an abnormal reaction to an abnormal situation is a normal reaction.” (Not everything needs to be pathologized)
“Love is the ultimate goal and the highest goal to which man can aspire.”
“Salvation of man is through love and in love.”

Frankl’s hope carried him through, despite not being the strongest or most apt.

Key to highlight the difference between sucrose and glucose. Research indicates sucrose has a more significant negative impact on health compared to glucose, largely due to its composition of both glucose and fructose, which can disrupt appetite regulation and potentially contribute more readily to metabolic issues when consumed in excess. It wasn’t until the late 19th century the average person had excess

Stresses the importance of knowing your personal values so you have more energy to give to things that truly matter! This doesn’t mean being indifferent, but comfortable with being different.
- Failure isn’t bad. It’s a learning opportunity.
- Pleasure is a false god- it doesn’t lead to happiness. It is a side effect of happiness.
- Make your values something internal. Something you can control.
