Also EVERYONE deserves some shit for the way they're policing Helena. I see from the synopsis of her book that Thomas is going to vindicate them for doing so and fuck that.

This book has gotten mighty creepy. "I *just know* he won't hurt me" from the FMC plus MMC deciding he's going to keep holding her prisoner because he "likes" her. Ew lol

I'm grateful that this dude seems to be an actual rake (though he's trying to reform now) and not just Man Who Has Sex lol.

am I terrible for not finding their "whirlwind romance" aboard the ship even slightly romantic? I don't buy their "love" at all, it's utterly shallow masquerading as deep. also wow how misleading for this to supposedly be a "revenge" story and almost immediately the only thing fmc cares about is that he will hate her lol

It's wild to me how many romance books push the "he won't cheat on you if he wants/loves you enough" narrative, considering women are writing these books AND are more likely to be cheated on.

A lot more dubcon-y than her newer stuff, but man GB really delivers on her men experiencing actual emotions.

Not really liking the fact that Emma somehow "owes him" because he did the absolute bare minimum.

I love when Livia gets angry. She's like "no wonder the upper classes characterize the poor as violent, how else can someone be when treated this way every day?" She is going to snap on someone one day and I hope Thomas writes about it. I am also very much enjoying her romantic subplot as well as Mrs. Watson's.

Agatha being so anxious/embarassed about the extremely mild and inoffensive letter she wrote is one of the most "me" things I've ever read. Also love how Penelope perceives her as stern and efficient (and is so nice to her) but for Agatha it's just "being me."

Yet another "honorable" and "disciplined" MMC who somehow just *can't help* but be the complete opposite towards the FMC. 🙄

GOD why does romance have to be so misogynistic. This woman is cool af, yet we're supposed to be into her body betraying to this fucking loser. Oh, but he's so COMMMANDING and POWERFUL. And, as we all know, men can't control their sexual urges and REALLY it's A HUGE COMPLIMENT that he's so into her.

Why are people so shit at writing male romance leads who are even vaguely sympathetic?! This dude's ONLY problem is that the abused woman who was forced to marry him (or die) two weeks ago doesn't want to fuck him. Yet my takeaway from this apparently is supposed to be that she should be more grateful to him for saving her life and not casting out her son. JFC

I mostly like this book but I really can't stand John and the Amy-Rose/John relationship. Dude, PLEASE STOP intentionally catching the maid who lives in your house alone (so that you can kiss her, usually). It's so fucking creepy! and the way she swoons over him while he commits/risks nothing. Yuck.

I can't believe how shitty this dude is right outta the gate. Raging misogynist, "she should be grateful I'm marrying her," "I don't trust her but I can't wait to f--k her tonight even though she's been sick for the past five days and oh BTW I just killed her husband who she's a faithless bitch for betraying even though he was a traitor." Dude is a friggin MANCHILD.

I was a bit wary of this because I saw many complaints about the writing quality, but I like it. 🤷‍♀️ Four POVs is kind of a lot for me, but I like them all. The John/Amy-Rose relationship skeeves me out so much though, and I sense that they're endgame, alas.

Realizing that 3/4 of the 2025 M/F HRs I've read have FMC ostensibly a capable woman on some sort of mission paired with an MMC who is a condescending prick about it whines about her PUTTING HERSELF IN DANGER. I wish I could obliterate that phrase from the English language. But don't worry, they're totally equals. The book literally told me so. Did they all take the same writing class or something?

The drama, politics, action is really interesting. I'm a bit disappointed by the romance tho bc the relationship is so static.

LOVE. Great characters, great backdrop. I love the relationships between the sisters, this has been one of the best and most interesting HRs I've read for non-romantic f/f relationships.

The setup/plot is interestung & very good but the instalust is meh and sometimes creepy.

Wow this book is *so* terrible. MMC is a parody of an alpha moron and I stg the FMC "lifts her chin ddefiantly" on every other page. I'm definitely going to finish it though lol.

not understanding the hate for Hattie, but when do I ever
