PLEASE - Heated Rivalry lit something in me- this book is terrible but I’m committed to the bit at this point.

This book being predominantly from Ilya’s POV is the best choice she could’ve made. What a sweet lil Russian man just deeply in love.

Super interesting how I’ve basically lived this story so far- unsurprising how colonized nations value education from America/Britain over everything. I’m from Jamaica and this story is based in Nigeria, but this is fr just a common story across the diaspora it seems.

They’re so cute.

This is bringing me back to being unhinged in middle school reading wattpad books at 2am u see the covers and giggling. This has given me back my youth.

Think it’s really gripping reading ab different peoples experiences “learning” they are not white and the ages at which it finally clicks and changes their outlook on life. Poor kid

Tackling queerness as an identity vs as a performance for other queer ppl. Super interesting so far.

Back to reading this book after a while and shes so real. Like shes bitter for a reason and I support anything she wants to do after this point tbh. Also the Hermes plot line is so funny to me

Kinda crazy how representations and interpretations of queerness have changed throughout history but gay bars have been the same for so long. Like cross culturally, across nations, the space of a gay bar itself holds the same meaning and importance to the community. Kinda cool

Book has been a great historical record of queer spaces, reality of the loneliness of queer identity, and the reality that the gay club is at time the only 'safe space' that gay men have. But what happens when your only safe space is focused on sex, drugs, partying, and promiscuity. Great exploration of gay identity's intimate relationship with nightlife and clubbing culture. Cant wait to finish.
