Going back to an old favorite for a comfort read. I’ve had a lot of disappointing DNFs recently. At this point, I need something that I know for sure is good 😮‍💨

I’m far enough into this that I don’t really want to drop it at this point but I’m honestly pretty bored. The story and characters are mostly interesting, but there’s just so much long winded info-dumping and name dropping of characters/places/deities that I’m never going to be able to remember. Every time I think the story is about to get going, it slows down again for more boring exposition… 😩

Why Feng Xiao?! Why did you shave your beautiful hair?? 😱 After seeing the picture in the front of the book, I thought it was going to have something to do with the gu poisoning. But no, you did it to yourself! Why?? Couldn’t you have just washed it a million times?? 😭😭😭

I really love the author’s descriptive writing style and language. Gary Furlong is a delightful narrator, as usual, who truly brings this story to life. However, I’m really struggling to get into this one. The plot feels meandering and aimless. Also, I despise insta-love. Honestly, if I didn’t have to return this to the library tomorrow, I’m not sure I’d have the motivation to continue.

Gah! Eli pisses me off so much! He’s the one who opened a competing shop right next to an already established one! He should have done his research before moving in! He’s a dick stealing Ambrose’s customers and expecting him to “make it work”? How is that fair? I’m also super annoyed with Ambrose’s “friends”. They’re complete traitors who aren’t sticking by him or being understanding AT ALL!!

Damn! The shit is really hitting the fan now! This is getting exciting! 🍿👀 But man, both the current and former emperors are ungrateful, backstabbing asshats! 😤

Wow! This book has been surprisingly good so far! I just started it last night and I’m already a little more than halfway through! I haven’t been able to put it down! This is perfect as my last spooky book for October! Vampires of El Norte was disappointing in the horror department, but this book has some genuinely creepy hauntings! I’m so curious to find out what’s really going on here!

I’m enjoying this overall, but I’m starting to feel a bit uncomfortable with Gu Yun and Chang Geng’s relationship. When is Gu Yun going to stop treating Chang Geng like a son and a child? He knows about Chang Geng’s feelings now and they seem to make him both uncomfortable and upset. I don’t see even a hint of reciprocation here. Gu Yun obviously cares but his affection seems more like that of a father…

OMG!! Nena is pissing me off so much right now!! Her parents are complete overbearing and ungrateful pieces of shit! Her father hurt, belittled and threatened to shoot the man she supposedly loves and yet she did NOTHING!! Nestor has risked his life for her over and over and yet she can’t even stand up to her own father for him! Damn, she really doesn’t deserve him…

This is a really interesting book so far! It’s not quite what I had initially expected, but in a good way. It feels pretty unique compared to anything I’ve read recently. I also love the childhood friends to lovers trope. The longing and deep connection between Nestor and Nena is just so palpable! It’s nice to read about a relationship that’s not just based on lust.

DNF at 35%

I wanted to like this one, I really did, but I just can’t get into it. This is my 2nd DNF in the last few days. I don’t know if I’m in a bit of a slump or if I’ve just been picking the wrong books for me. Either way, it sucks :/

I’m glad that this volume seems to be much more plot heavy than the first so far. I’m also really enjoying Chang Geng and Gu Yun’s reunion after four years apart. It’s especially nice since Chang Geng isn’t underaged anymore.

I’m glad Gu Yun is finally speaking to Chang Geng with more sincerity. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe he does care just as much as Chang Geng. Also, the story is really starting to get interesting now! I’m really what curious Liao Ran is up to.

I guess this is mostly a good thing considering the age gap and the fact that Chang Geng is currently only fourteen, but it seems like Cheng Geng is way more attached to Gu Yun than Gu Yun is to Chang Geng.

Sangu Mandanna’s books are just so unbelievably cozy! It’s like wrapping yourself up in a warm, fluffy blanket. I honestly just couldn’t wait for this book anymore. Libby said that I still had another eight weeks to wait, so I finally broke down and used an audible credit. So far, I have no regrets 😊

It’s true that I first read this book over fifteen years ago now, but it’s crazy how much of it I’ve forgotten!

I really need to catch up on my reviews! I’ve been so lazy with that recently. Part of it was the issue that I was having with my glasses, but now that’s resolved, I really have no excuse anymore 😅

Ugh I’m really struggling to get through this one. I’m honestly not sure if I’ll have the motivation to read the second book. This is why I don’t really read modern danmei 😑

I’m really enjoying this so far! It’s better than I expected and definitely a good book to read heading into the spooky season. I’ve always loved a good vampire story >ᵥ_ᵥ<

I’m really starting to think that T. Kingfisher is just not an author whose work resonates with me personally. I wasn’t crazy about the Clocktaur War books and I’m honestly liking this book even less. I find Halla to be an extremely annoying main character and the book just drags so much in the middle. I’m bored and annoyed by Halla’s endless inane questions and prattling.

Okay like, I understand Gu Kaifeng’s confusion and I feel bad for him. There really isn’t any other logical way to explain Lin Feiran’s behavior towards him without knowing about the ghost thing. But damn dude, dial it back! Stop being so pushy and creepy! This went from cute and sweet to borderline sexual harassment real fast! I hope this improves because it’s making me very uncomfortable…

(Not entirely sure how to keep track of where I am in this since I’m not reading a version with page numbers. I’m on chapter 29 out of 47 though so I think it’s safe to assume I’m at least 50% done?)

This is actually starting to get a lot more interesting. I’m really curious to find out what happens. I’m especially curious about what ends up happening between Vin and Elend. Since this isn’t a romance I’m a lot less certain of how things might turn out between them. I really want them to be together, so the uncertainty makes me a little nervous but I suppose that also makes things a little more exciting.

This is really adorable so far! It’s definitely giving me cutesy high school BL manga vibes 🥰

This is pretty good so far. I really like the unique magic system. I’m definitely really enjoying it quite a bit, although I’m still waiting for the book to fully grab me. Given all the amazing things I’ve heard about Brandon Sanderson, I admit that I was expecting a bit more wow factor.

Sadly, I’ve barely been able to make any progress with this book because I recently got a bad glasses prescription that’s been causing me headaches and eye strain when I read. All I’ve been able to do is listen to audiobooks for the past few weeks. I’m still waiting on my new glasses but I’ve decided I’m determined to read even just one chapter per day in the meantime just to keep going with this book.

I’m kinda disappointed in this so far. I loved The previous book but so far this sequel isn’t nearly as much fun. Mostly it’s the fact that Kisa is basically the complete opposite of Hani. I mean, really, what’s the point of reincarnation if they’re completely different people and don’t have any memories of their former life? I’ll give it more of a chance but Kisa is pretty boring compared to Hani :/
