3 chapters in and I can already see this becoming an all timer. Has basically everything I want: rich worldbuilding, vivid historical detail and characters trying to better themselves in a dark hellish world

I think this may become an all-timer

Finished book 1 of 2 (each book has two books!). An easy 5 stars. Tolkiens work with dozens of interconnected backstory’s, and world building elements are just amazing from a technical level, but the sense of reverence the language gives these events make them emotional and in many cases melancholic (the vibe of a once ethereal world falling to darkness)

So far even better on reread. How can anyone be mad at grrm for not finishing when he’s already written the greatest fantasy book of all time. Worth reading asoiaf for this alone
