Enka is just FULL of terrible decisions, good lord. I have a feeling I will spend a lot of this waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Still extremely interesting, if a little fast-paced at times. I enjoy it greatly and I think there’s a lot I can take from this

Phenomenal already, the dynamics between Mathilde and Enka are so freaking interesting. Feels reminiscent of Donna Tartt’s writing/subject matter, but a bit more succinct. Very excited to see where this goes!!

Is it terrible to say that the scariest part of this so far was the My Chemical Romance mention on page 139

The book does the thing where the ghost communicates through whatever is around the main characters, and deadass it felt like the real version of that because I’ve had MCR on the brain for like the last two or three months lmfao

Squinting my eyes a little bit at some of this..entirely unsure of where it’s heading and whether or not I want to go there with it

Determined to finish this book just to see if I’m being too quick to judge

Main character has to die dude

I have no qualms with the writing, but I find myself getting antsy about the length. I’m just kind of wondering how much you can get out of Dead Man stalks MC for revenge..

I want to see how things works out, but at this point, it does feel a little like it’s showing its hand a little early. We’ll see if that ends up making sense. I do have faith, even if I’m a little worried

Rereading after almost a decade because I never finished it the first time..

Checked on here and past me had said I DID finish it??

He’s a big liar but okay lmao

Determined to actually see it through this time, and hopefully pick up some stylistic things I like!!

I put the book down and stared at the ceiling for a good few minutes. Jesus Christ.

So much horrific and upsetting stuff in this book, but I had to check out for a second after Lucas walked Agnes and her brother home. Yikes.

Finished The Notebook. Wow. Really enjoyed the writing style especially, but also the examination of how these kids continued to lose their innocence.

Obviously some very weird stuff that put me off in this—certainly not enjoyable to read those sections. But everything else about the novel feels intense and compact, and I think it’s a great depiction of war corrupting the public. Nice end to everything too.

Minimalist writing style is highly captivating. I’m very intrigued by where this whole thing is going.

Picked it up because it has been quoted as heavily influencing Mother 3. Really feeling for these poor kids caught up in everything.

Honestly horrifying so far. I’m really really hoping this goes a certain way, but if it maintains the energy of the start, I know it’ll be a good read.

It’s like Companion, but I actually like this one haha

I’m crashing out, this is so good. Forever grateful that I discovered Mandel through Sea of Tranquility after buying it for a book club I never attended. Mandel is truly one of my favorite authors, and I’m so grateful to live in a world where I get to look forward to whatever work she has coming out next. Phenomenal

MY HEART AUGHHHH. Less relatable in some ways as Adina grows up, but still completely heartfelt and touching. I have teared up a lot. I know I’m going to cry before I finish the book, augh

I have to check in so regularly because there are specifics that are really getting to me.

Adina’s development and sense of loss in the second part really, really got to me. I think there’s just so much in her character that I can relate to, and it makes me ache for her.

I figured out who the other author was that this reminds me of besides Vonnegut—Miranda July. What a combo. I was destined to read this book

Done with part 1. Still very good. Obsessed with the small ways in which Bertino pulls the reader into the lives of these characters.

When Adina heard the song at the observatory, I knew immediately it was Philip Glass. I too appreciate his music.
