An intriguing tale thus far... the writing style is slightly surreal and ominous, which befits the story being told.

Confession time: The Sword of Truth books seem to be the guilty-est of guilty reading pleasures for me. Goodkind writes like a freaky madman! His books are like improv: he writes with a mantra of "yes, and." I mean, all fiction is "making it up as we go along," but with Goodkind you can basically see him making things up on the fly! It's a train wreck and I can't look away from the schlocky goodness!

I remember now why it has taken me a couple tries to read this book. It's really starting out slow, with jumps between characters of differing levels of interest. The Jezal character's POV is boring and seems pointless. Things would be better if we just jumped between Logen and Glokta.

Decided to reread this book, because I needed a little easy fantasy fiction escapism in my life right now. There's a lot of world-building exposition in opening chapters, for sure. But at least it's framed in a conversation, rather than straight infodump. So far, the experience of reading this again could be described as "quaint." I guess that's the experience I was going for at this particular time, so...

Ah, still getting a kick out of Hough's Easter eggs! Take the name Alia Valix. Alia is the sister of Paul Atreides in the Dune series. Valix is similar to Valis, the title of a PKD novel. The context of the Alia character and the novel Valis are apropos to the character in Zero World, for sure! So far, a good read beyond the Easter eggs!

So far, so good. Great writing, interesting characterization. But coolest of all was the use of a Queensryche lyric on the very first page. Awesome to see a bit of Operation: Mindcrime in a novel, never seen that before! Very apropos considering the nature of the main character's implant and choice of career. Mr. Hough, and Peter Caswell by extension, have excellent taste is music! This was a nice little Easter egg!

A brutal story thus far. Reads like want you'd expect a holy war to read like. Though fictitious, names like Mengedda and Gedea, and the horrors described there, will stay with me for awhile.

Ok, I'm more than halfway through this book. Gotta keep going...it's not that its a horrible book. But, I think I'm getting tired of reading long series composed of giant brick books.

Still reading...the more characters this series gets, the more each chapter makes you work to reorient yourself in space and time. That's one of my issues with this book: having to work to get my bearings at the start of each damned chapter. Reading in this genre should not be so much work, IMHO. I understand Martin wants to elevate the genre to more literary realms, but come on...oh well, back to the battle...

Still slowly working my way through this...the way I figure, Martin's not going to release the next book any time soon, so why should I rush through this one? Taking my good old time and that's just fine by me.

I continue on my long, slow slog through Westeros and beyond. That's not to say that I'm not enjoying the journey. But it's slow progress, and that's all my fault.

This is just my version of a trashy summertime novel. It's utter tripe, but it's entertaining at least. Easy on the brain. No deep thought needed.

Bogged down in adulthood and having limited time to read besides on my commute (40 minutes a day, five days a week). Self pity, what?

Slow going on the reading front due to life interrupting. I'm also trying to break my book list down into subcategories (i.e. being a nerd).
