I'm more upset with the story ending there!

"I never tried hard to please anybody at all after that day...now I only try hard to please myself. That is all that matters here. That is the secret thing I found." - The ending message while I agree with whole heartedly...how did we get here again? The story itself doesn't really align with the message..it's just strange.

The Surrogate is probably the strangest short story from this collection by far! It's my favorite, in a way- and I think it IS because I can't understand it in full. I want to keep reading it- over and over- because I'm left wondering- wondering about so much.

This one made me mad.

While I'm not really sure how to take the story "Nothing Ever Happens Here"- the title is correct. It's "relatable" in a sense (but also not really for someone like myself)- but life is just... life. It doesn't really go anywhere.

I feel rather…complex(?not the right word but idk what else to use) about this past story. I have many questions, but it’s just me- this story feels complete and the ending is quite fitting.

I've made it through 15 chapters and I know how I feel about this one now- it's not really "for me" but it's okay- it's the type of manhwa that you read to decompress or if you're in between classes- not one with too much plot but is a nice casual read. It's the type that you know exactly what to expect (like what happens to the main character in "reality") - I'm hoping to get through it, but we'll see if I can :/

I'm not really sure if I like this, but it ends at 116 chapters so it's pretty short for a manhwa (so I wanted to give it a go)- but I'm not sure if I will continue past 10 chapters. It gets right to the point which is nice, but I don't really like the art style personally (but it IS well done).

"An Honest Woman" has me so on edge, I wasn't too thrilled with the writing, at first, but dear god- I'm scared for what might happen. It's a little too real with how old creepy men act- and I feel bad for her since she recognizes all of it, and is still in this situation (since she is alone).

Okay??? So this one at least felt "complete" but what was that ending? Genuinely I am confused. "I got what I wanted." - THAT statement is what confused me the most. WHAT is it that she wanted? more drugs? the experience? to watch the suffering???

Orienting your Dreamwork was quite useful, though I think the anticipation of dreaming with intention at the start of a new moon would make it so that I can't sleep lol. Though (generally) I like the notes of washing your sheets and having a physical notebook for dream journaling (I gave up on this in the past, but adding little notes to my daily journal would be nice ^^) I think plotting discoveries is the hard part

I'm so confused of this story ending here??? He laments on and on about how much he dislikes his dead wife only to end there??? It's good- and well written, but feels entirely unfinished.

I have so many questions???? First off narcissist- maybe sociopath?? Is MJ even real?? I just.. don't know.

I don't know how I'm feeling yet- but I hate the focus on urinating so far.

This author knows how to really build a scene- very descriptive with a large focus on genitalia (or other visceral things). The narrator reads very fast (which isn't a bad thing)- but I almost wish I had more time to linger on the words.

I don't expect that this is a book I'll "get through" per say- but probably one I'll skim. The subject matter is interesting and I really like the way the book itself is laid out (to keep engagement- everything is sectioned off nicely and there are frequent illustrations), it does read like a textbook (very informative)- but I simply don't have the time to fully dedicate to reading this book (maybe in the future)!

wow, Ottessa Moshfegh is really good at writing pathetic people- realistic people. This character is a little too close to someone I know (and HAVE to deal with). Though, if anything, I feel bad for the uncle...but what do you expect from someone so shallow?

That was so satisfying - and I'm looking forward to everyone else getting what's coming to them. I love Muriel (? IDK about the spelling) quips.

He's cracking jokes now!!!! Honestly he is so interesting- I really hope she starts to view him for him.

"I ate a jester once" with the prior nights events I find this horrifying comment even funnier lol- I know they had a serious conversation after buuuuut they kinda deserved it...all that's left is the main rich bastards.

considering how Avalon (? idk if it's spelled this way- I'm listening to it) became Billy- chances are he needs more. And I'm here for it. I like a revenge plot :)

What does it matter?
Agh! The concept itself is very similar to The Summer Hikaru Died- I hope as this story continues that she is able to accept the difference, she already mourned her husbands death, but to see him again is both joyous and painful- but he is not her husband. He is a creature (not a monster).

I hope they all get what's coming to them.

It shouldn't be, but it's shocking how easy it is to get away with murder if you have money and have paid off the police. It's infuriating.

I'm so curious about what the creature is :)

This makes me so mad, but what do you expect from the rich? they certainly don't view you like a human.
