it’s amazing to me just how honest this book is. he never tries to justify his actions or make himself look like the good guy. i just read the shooting chapter and it’s all so raw. im so sad this man is gone.

it doesn’t even feel like an autobiography it feels like a novel

smth about this book…. the way it manages to be worlds away yet so relatable at the same time. i read one part and actually felt a weight lift off my chest bc it felt so good to see that experience in someone else’s words.

i’ve never had any interest in autobiography’s before. i just picked this up because i’m such a fan of michael k williams’ performance in the wire. but my GOD. the writing really makes you feel like you’re there. the fact this man could live such a traumatic life and still dedicate his entire platform to lifting others up is just amazing to me. i’ve never been so upset over a celebrity death.

thoroughly enjoying watching K.’s sanity fray. the court doesn’t even need to be present to have a major impact on whatever’s going on. this book is so uneventful yet tells you so much. thats sexy.

i’m such a whore for kafka. i will read any author that can make scenes about nothing philosophical.

alright i’m giving it a chance bc i spent a lot of money on the sprayed edges edition but i already don’t like the character work and im very very worried this is just going to be kuang reminding us how smart she is for several hundred pages

i want to like this book so much more than i do but shadow is boring, there are no women, and so far it’s just been 257 pages of ominous references to a storm coming. i’m this close 🤏 to dnfing if it doesn’t pick up soon. i just really hope i didn’t read those interdimensional sex scenes for nothing.

ok i love the prose and im enjoying the ideas behind the story. but the pacing is bad and the mc is so boring. im almost halfway through the book and the only significant female character is dead and has like 0 independent characterization. i WANT this book to be good so badly bc i am highly invested in the world but i need it to pick up NOW

neil gaiman is a freak and i’m traumatized

“I didn’t say I liked it. I said it fascinated me.” about sums up my feelings on this book so far. also what the FUCK does oscar wilde have against using periods ???? this book is definitely gonna lose one star for the writing style alone.

ok i’m starting to change my mind a little bit. at the beginning i genuinely could not tell whether wilde was praising or criticizing anti-intellectualism (this is my first time reading any of his work so i was going in totally blind. i literally did not even know that man was gay.) but the themes are becoming more clear and complex. im starting to appreciate the role of henry’s manologue’s more. that is all.

ok its not bad so far but it feels more like a philosophy lecture than a novel. henry goes off on tangents so often i feel like im reading an essay. so far the blending of narrative & morals is….. not good

how can a book about a fantastical impossible heist be so BORING

i’m this close 🤏 to DNFing. only sticking with it for now bc i already bought the sequel. but the multiple POVs feel so unnecessary and frustrating thus far because kaz’s is the only one i truly believe is necessary. everyone else feels so two-dimensional. every matthias and nina scene makes me roll my eyes to the back of my skull and they take up so much space!! kaz needs to redeem this book for me asap.
