i am enjoying this book. its very wordy tho and i probably will have to reread simply because i’m struggling to use my context clues LOL
i really enjoy chapter 3, and her connection between the capitalist system and patriarchy—beauty itself has become individualistic and exclusionary, valued on a person’s proximity to whiteness, capital and thinness!

i like the way theyre both nigerian i like that theyre in contact i like that they deconstruct religion a bit and i like that ifemelu isnt stupid and actually somewhat combative
i have read this book before but never actually finished it. i’m going to finish this book in one sitting istgggg

i genuinely love this book in audiobook version so much
reality’s weird and convoluted way of speaking is somehow comforting to read because it unravels itself at me
she talks in spirals and it makes sense. me likey

before you say anything im simply intrigued by the title
it’s so unfortunate that the man who wrote this wasn’t black because it kind of ruins the experience of reading ab a black experience through a bigoted lens
but it’s fundamental towards understanding the harlem renaissance and i am somewhat pleased by the writing style
sigh

but i mean. its interesting.

i do enjoy it… but its definitely something i wish i got a physical copy of instead of listening to the audiobook💔
