Elise,
Elise, is on page 105 of 398 of The Arctic Incident (Artemis Fowl, #2)
This book is not the most descriptive. But it gives you enough information in a way I prefer. This book doesn't go on in long descriptive rambles, but instead buries the description in the action. For instance instead of "Captain Short is an elf with a catlike stance-" it is "As Captain Short leaped up, blaster in hand, in a cat-like stance, almost of a gymnast."

You form connections in this book to real life fairy tales and magical creatures. This in turn creates an image of the different creatures that are mentioned and imagined in the book. Through out most of the book, elves, sprites, and goblins play a role. And with the direct connection to our myths, it's easier to form an image of what's happening and who these characters are.

ace- continued. The men have many different kingdoms and groups so it's difficult to tell who's on which side. And the wizards are a mysterious group, they even say out in the book, "Do not trifle in the affairs of a wizard."

Try three. The theme is good verses evil. It is very clear who is good and evil. Even if it is slightly prejudice. The orcs, wyrvens and black riders are all working to stop frodo and obtain the ring. While it is clear that the elves, and hobbits are working to destroy the ring (or the elves met so far) but there is an interesting gray middle. It is difficult to tell the position of the men and wizards.I ran out of s

So, apparently journey is not a theme, so my second choice is adventure. Constantly there are battles to overcome. One minute they fight a giant human-eating willow, then they get lost in the fog, it seems that the battle is constant. The pattern is, a large amount of detail, which is slow and very explanatory, then a chunk of two or three different perils.

The theme so far seems to be journey, a long travel of adventure. The plot seems to be travel to destroy the ring, but they have many challenges, it's not so much survival, it's more like a task to complete.

The greatest internal conflict so far is frodo's fear of failure, his worry that the quest won't complete and he'll fail Gandalf and middle earth. The greatest external conflict so far is the willow that tried to eat Merry and Pippin.

The most recent thing that happened, was that Will became the new bearer of the subtle knife. And with the subtle knife he seemed broken at first. He has been through so much in the past few days, he couldn't handle it. Then Pantalaimon encouraged him to face his destiny, and know he is training to be the master of the subtle knife.

I predict that Will will become more brotherly and friendly to Lyra. Right now they are helping one another, but constantly arguing and picking on one another. Especially Will, who is a harsh boy. I expect he will change at some point, otherwise the friendship would break up.

The tone of the book is very urgent, often trying to get some task done is the focus of the scene.

I would have helped Bluefur through her losses. After she lost her mother and sister she needed an understanding... cat. I would have helped her through the tragedy, and pushed her as deputy instead of thistleclaw.

I find it interesting how the cats are written like real people. For instance there are some who are friends, enemies, and love interests. Even with the more fantasy elements it still has realistic and interesting characters. Like people in your family, only cats. You have the know-it-alls, the trouble makers, the overly well behaved, the people trying to prove themselves. All of these work in as characters.

The style of writing is very similar to other children's fantasy. They have long monologues about a character's past, is very descriptive of the characters and situations, and short snippets of dialouge. This style illustrates the scene but has the characters very simple so we don't have to think too much about the motives.

The magic in this is very inconsistent, take for example the demon prison, in the prison it is not invincible, but nearly invincible, which is apparently the strongest type of magic, this is very confusing. I get that all magic that can be done can be undone, but when they make an object invisible thats not the strongest it can be. That doesn't make much snse to me.

If graystripe is dead I'll be sad. He was funny and strong and he lost so much but still was there when Firestar needed him. Graystripe is one of my favorite characters and he may or may not be dead! All that's left of the Graystripe family is Stormfur, who went to live with the tribe. Imagine how sad Graystripe would be.

More often than not animals have represented different characteristics. And cats are no exception. Many a time cats are related to swiftness, and scheming. Which is what these animals commonly do. These books are truly epics. Tales of betrayal, insanity, lust, and bloodshed. Anyone can die. This is why these books are much better than their reputation. The warriors series are one of the greatest books ever.
