Please, please keep being good, my last 2 reads have been a torturous shit pit and a DNF. I need something good before my brain rots.

Oh blast, this started out so intriguing and fascinating and then... the characters and the plot became... dumb.

The way you're just tossed right into a whole new world full of strange creatures with odd names and religions and peoples and ranks... without a smidge of exposition. Wow. Love it.

Also, audiobook narrator is the same as the one for Bone Ships. I keep hearing him say deeeeekeeeeper. LOVE IT even more.

Fuck's sake, Brandon, stop adding Radom Name Fused Ones! No one CARES what they're called or what they do, you Full Off Shit and Crem One!

I am so...so incredibly BORED by everything in this book. Finishing it will be the most difficult reading feat I will have ever accomplished.

Already growing glaze-eyed at the depresso, the schizo and pseudo-science.

I love good guy Dalinar and he is forever the best character Brando Sando ever wrote... but Blackthorn Dalinar did nothing wrong and everyone who tried to change him or get in his way had it coming to them.

Loving this book thus far, though I have to day I am struggling with the moral conundrum. Why even is there one?

Can't believe I've read more than a thousand pages of heinous assholes constantly getting away with the most horrific of crimes. And it's still not over.

Up until now I felt that this is the best book in the series, but I find, upon another re-read, that if the story does not follow the Malazans, I do not care a bit. Crokus, Mappo, Icarium, Karsa... I have zero investment in any of their stories.

Ahahaha, past me saying I would never start a Malazan re-read with Midnight Tides. Technically, I'm not, I read all the prequels and GotM, but instead of Deadhouse Gates, I'm going to Letheras now. Cos chronological order and all that.

To my shock and awe... I like Dathenar and Prazek this time around? Enough to actually read their prattle?

This, read without prior knowledge of the man series means nothing.

But if you have already read MBotF in its entirety... you're crying. I'm crying. Everyone is crying.

Soooo many horrible things happening during the last chapters of this book. I remember them all from previous reads but I find my revulsion and hatred for some of the characters only increases with time and rereads.

It's been a while since my last re-read and I had forgotten, but damn, this book is INTENSE. I know a lot of people struggle with these prequels (I do too) and the writing and so many new characters, but DAMN. So intense. And all the connections. All the beginnings. I'm in Malazan lore heaven.

That moment when Steven Pacey starts reading a new Joe Abercrombie book in your ear. Best.Thing.Ever.

Wow, Stephen King completely anticipated the orange cunt monkey... all the way back in 1979. Solidifies my idea that all I need to know and all I ever need to know about the USA comes from his books.

Persevering thanks to fast-forwarded audio and sheer stubbornness. But this book is absolutely pointless. I'm giving myself until the end of the day to skim through it and see how it ends.

Oooh, this one is absolute rubbish. Eat, sleep, wring impotent virtual hands, eat, sleep, repeat. I'm skimming through the chapters, hoping something interesting eventually happens.

Well, I can see that this is going to be a horrible slog through a morass of contemptible characters and hideous behavior from all and sundry. I have to wonder what possessed the author to write such relentlessly depressing crap.

Well, 200 pages in and I understand the less than stellar rating. The world and the story itself are interesting. The main character and the narration choices... not so much.

Yeah, this is absolute shit. But I bought it and it's SK and so I will waste a day in my life readind this tripe.

This might be the rare SK dud.

Interesting to read an SK story where I am enjoying everything... except anything to do with the main plot. I could not be less interested or more annoyed by anything to do with the actual events on 11.22.63, they are getting in the way of a really good novel.
