Det er litt slitsomt å være «inne i» Kristians hode og tanker, han er en ganske usympatisk type. Jeg er ikke så interessert i kunst. Men det er jo gode beskrivelser og forsåvidt interessant.

So far, the story of Olive is told through other people’s stories by proximity. Interesting way of storytelling.

I like how the other prominent female scientists that Marie Curie worked with are also mentioned more extensively. I never heard of Ellen Gleditsch before, Norways second female professor, who created a radiology research lab at the UiO.

God, the children in this book are not spared.. But apart from some of the fates of the children making me queasy, I’m liking the book. It’s an interesting world building and several story lines illuminating different parts of the world and how the «roggas»/orogenes are being treated.

Im enjoying this book, it’s sweet and easy. And I have not often read a book with a female risk averse engineer as main character. Relatable

Its almost unbearable to read how evil Heathcliff is, he’s ruined so many lives! But was it really common to be sick with colds for whole seasons in the 1800s? And to be completely bedridden so often as these people are? Servants could for sure not allow themselves that.

Heathcliff is a horrible character, marrying how he abuses Isabella and even his own son. Yes, he was not treated well as a child but he’s paying it forward by ruining peoples lives..

I think I read this in my late teens and don’t remember much of it (I had mixed it up with Jane Eyre in my memory). The book starts with Mr. Lockwood visiting Wuthering Heights and being received rudely. He’s allowed to stay the night through the storm and sleeps in a haunted room belonging to a Catherine. When he comes back, his servant Nelly tells the story of what happened between Catherine and Heathcliff (+)

Interesting to have the view of the sister to the story. The story of Psyche was not very well known to me to begin with, I quickly read the wiki to get some context. Until now, I feel this is a bit of a story about possessiveness.

Chilling descriptions of bomb raids and mental institutions. But also sweet love stories, making love work within the boundaries of the war, or to know when it has to be given up. All three girls, Mab, Osla and Beth, experience love and heartache. Interestingly, prince Philip actually had a Canadian girlfriend named Osla working at Bletchley Park, which this character is based on.

The voice in the audiobook is a very good fit, she sounds just like one of the main characters (a tiny bit posh). I like it a lot so far, the small drops of Prince Philip are great. The historical context set a thrilling stage, and the girls have clear (perhaps slightly caricatured) personalities.

I agree that the main problem with screens is the opportunity cost, but the bar shouldn’t be just that sleep and social activity is healthy. A bored child may start reading books, which has been shown to give a boost in school. Yes, screen time doesn’t have to be all bad. But I think I want to have some control over when and how much - and no screens in the bedroom

The chapter on the government action (and tech companies) is mostly directed at the US and is not so applicable to Norway. It’s crazy that a person would go to jail for letting their school kid play alone at the playground in the US.

I liked the first half best, which presented research results and science based information. The chapter on spirituality felt more like the authors opinion, and some of it makes sense, but it felt different and less relevant to me.

Some of the points on the need for risky playing I also read about in «Risikofylt lek», and the shocking amount of hours teen spend on their phones which leads to so little sleep was also touched upon by the series «avlogga»

I feel like I’ve read about the increase in depression and decrease of social interactions before, might’ve been «stolen focus» or «skjerm barna» (by Norwegian author Maja Lunde). It’s a bit shocking that this research exists, but yet we as a society allow our kids (and ourselves) to be exposed to social media.

I find the description of the Counts relationship with Sofia vey sweet. It’s a beautiful reminder that a relationship with a child is made in the time spent together, in the stories and games shared. A child needs time and attention and through that the Count ends up being Sofias papa.
