don't you dare. I spent the middle two chapters distracted by the worry I was going to have to burn my kindle, don't you dare put them up another tree and actually do it this time.

Like, I don't hate it but it has some part of me on edge. I could really have done without the literal spit-take in the opening, or opening with a fic in the fic, and maybe "plank" would land different if I'd never seen Ed, Edd, and Eddy, but I have.

So, Din's enhancement is memory. He recalls his observations for Ana, so she can make deductions. And that makes sense with dialog, interviews, etc. We can grant that he's perceptive enough to note relevant non-verbal signals paralleling speech, or whatever. But the translation of non-verbal memory, visual, tactile, scent, other impressions to description is a separate skill. Was that explained? I don't remember.

There are some choices I think most authors would think twice about today, but I'm enjoying it so far.

All the sentences in the beginning felt like they were outstaying their welcome (rhythmically), one clause too many, but Crumley's definitely an author with an ear.

this is still a potential dnf, but my indecisiveness re what to start next has given it a slight reprieve.

never finished this series cuz this one is laughably priced, but I finally got a library card again for the first time in ages, and now I'm unstoppable

I think (part of) the problem is, Uncharles' constant denial of self, of wanting anything makes it very hard to give a shit about him.

Also the fact I know I could read an entire (and more entertaining) m/m or light mystery type book in less time than it will take me to read the rest of this...

Been over 6 years since I read any Lanyon, despite being one of my faves when I first discovered m/m.

Bobbie Wickham doing something other than getting engaged to Bertie or one of his friends. I'm not sure the rest of the book has anything to do with Blandings.

i should remember that guy from the other books I think, but oh well.
