It's going slow cuz I just keep rereading the amazing sentences over and over again.

note to self: in future avoid hitting the climax at bedtime when you've got something important scheduled the next morning

getting a bit tired of the tv style narrative structure in these, but i will say some of the commentary he gets to slip into the mouths of joe random single scene pov character is amusing.

So far, so typical. Which is good! I do like this author after all, and my favorite member of the MCM team is the focus of this one. He hasn't been on page yet tho... 😔

i feel like there's a tendency to say Milady is treated badly, and that's not wrong, but she's really not a well drawn character at all, like cartoonishly evil. maybe I'll change my mind by the end, but I doubt it

Well, that's reprehensible, but it doesn't land hard because the premise of the whole scene is so unbelievable. No matter how dark, she should know his voice at this point. And it's so weird the text acknowledges the problem with his treatment of Kitty but is more worried about the reader thinking he's unmanly for accepting expensive gifts from a woman.

Huh, I didn't realize we got that bit of info so early in the book. Def some very wtf behavior from Athos. Aramis's chapter was more entertaining.

So, that exchange w Mousqueton? was the first thing to bear any resemblance to the conversations in Brust's Dumas pastiches.
