“Those old wounds can’t be resolved through what you give your children. She needed to tend the little girl in her, because only a confrontation can change the direction of the waters.”

“I simply cannot feel whole when so knowingly, so deliberately forgetting…”

I am experiencing this book as a prolonged panic attack, so I am going slowly and taking many breaks to regulate my nervous system.

I think I need to take a break just for today because I can’t stop sobbing and almost puking and I don’t want to be an alive human anymore.

Madeline is 50% done with Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism
It is great that she is speaking out now, but her willingness to absolve herself of guilt at any opportunity is pretty annoying (she was just so optimistic and naive!!).

Also endlessly annoying to me is women speaking about giving birth as a passive participant beholden to their medical providers. Why are your feet in stirrups, why don’t you know better smh.

Madeline is starting What We Carry: A Memoir
Baffled by her description of hospital delivery and postpartum experience (maybe do some research first?) and hoping I can bridge this and get back to a place of liking/respecting the narrator…

i feel moved to comment in the middle of yet another incredibly validating (albeit painful and triggering) memoirs… I have always found so much comfort and safety in books, and at this stage in my healing, the reassurance that I am not alone in my experience of abuse and trauma is truly priceless. thank you to all that share their stories and pain, and in doing so offer us readers authentication and empowerment.

Not finishing. Have been meaning to read for years & < 2 hours into the audiobook the n word has been used 4 times unnecessarily. Not worth my time.
