Look, I get holding your narrative cards to your chest if you're trying to present some kind of twist, but I'm a third of the way through this unedited mess and I still haven't been given a reason to root for the MC or met a single likeable character. The word repetition was so bad in one section last night I thought I was being trolled somehow.

Oof, this one is... troubled. So much word repetition within consecutive sentences, cartoonish and broad characters, and a completely unlikeable MC. Was this self-published without an editor?

Easily in my top 3 of this author's works.

This is becoming one of my favorites of Grady Hendrix. If a man is going to write from the perspective of a pregnant teen girl in the 1970s south, he's the only one I want to hear from. It's also been a bit of a cathartic read given the state of, well, everything.

Too many people look at her "a beat/moment too long," sometimes multiple times on the same page. It's compulsively readable but these things are stumbling blocks every time I come to them.

I like the idea, and the narrative is mostly fine, but this author uses a lot of simile to the point that it becomes distracting. Needs some editing.
