The narrator's pleasing voice and performance make for a great escape when I retreat into this book. I'm finding this book easier to get into than the author's previous book.

The narrator really helps to bring the novel to life. The prose, while amazing, can also be a little bit clunky when read aloud, so I sometimes rewind and relisten to a short passage. The characters are vivid and realistic. Knowing what I know about fundamental Christianity in the US, I can see how Natalie would think, believe, and act the way she does. The scope this book covers is wide, but it's done well.

Cal, you are a sloppy researcher. Grisham wrote the Firm after being inspired by an article from Writers Digest that was basically, "top 10 tips on writing thrillers." Did you have a contractual obligation to fill and that's how you came up with this sloppy book?

I think he's wrong about his thesis on MFA/writing workshops. While those participants may win awards, I think it's more about marketing and networking rather than quality. This guy's success is an example of good marketing and networking.

This is painful to listen to because Newport's reading/speaking is stilted, and this guy needs an editor. It's so sloppily written.

This is slow going - the irony. The author reads it, and his pronunciation of the letter "t" is awkward on words such as "important," which he says a lot. He needs vocal coaching/training because it's distracting. Content-wise, it seems geared to entrepreneurs and high-level managers/leaders. For someone not used to protecting their time, I can see this being beneficial. For me, it's a reminder within my control.

I'm slowly making my way through this. While it's interesting, it's also not the kind of thing I want to listen to for hours at a time. I chose this to help me manage my workload (five jobs rolled into one). I do agree with some criticisms that many people will not have the power to implement some of his ideas. It does have value though. I also own the kindle version, which I plan to refer to.

As long as the narrator doesn't do the mother or Lydia's voices, it's an easy listen. I like the dual POV. Jane weirded out when he said, "I love you." What modern woman over 25 would run away like that? Literally run away.

I'm trying to get the ebook version since the audiobook narration is so awful, and it pulls me away from the story. The narrator's voice for the mother, and one of the younger sisters is grating and really hard to listen to. Otherwise, it's a light and fun read.

Chapter 27. Not sure what my completion rate is since I'm on Audible. This is painful. The Jane Austen part was fun, but overall, this is cringe inducing. These two people are both roughly 37 and act like they are in their early 20s when it comes to communicating. Alice's internal dialogue is painfully immature. And Guy might be hot, but wow, so immature. Some storylines have been telegraphed. Easy to set down.

I'm really enjoying the content, even though Newport has some speaking quirks. As a knowledge worker, I agree with much of what he's asserting.

Light fare. Enjoyable. Good to listen to as I drift off to sleep. Rough start in the beginning. Not great, but time travel makes it fun. I need a fluffy novel like this every now and then. Escapism. Little George is fun.

I held off on this book because so many reviews stated something like, "must be nice to have control over your schedule," which most of us don't. However, I think some of those readers failed to take into account that you can still take away knowledge, even if it's not a "how to" book. I like that Newport is reflective about the modern workplace. He, too, is bound by schedules and deadlines.

Just started this. While I don't like the cover, I find the topic to be interesting, especially in light of a certain tech billionaire who's making headlines these days for his weird mix of tech and religion. These tech billionaires remind me of Howard Hughes in his later years.

I'm about to start the last chapter, six. I'm really enjoying this as well as the narration. I did slow it down just a tad to absorb what the narrator is saying. I'm savoring each chapter. One of the things I enjoy about Jane Austen is that she is telling the reader about society through the cloak of a novel. Professor Stephanie Insley Hershinow does a great job in this Great Course.

It will be interesting to see how this book lands with me at this point in my life, since I am not a young adult or even a middle-aged adult. I am hoping that it will give me insight into how to make friends in our early years of being a "senior," when we are still working so short on time and energy.
