The characters are traipsing around in search of witches that they won’t ever use. I love the characters but the plot is lacking.

Language is an odd mix of modern American English and more formal old-fashioned speach. Other than that, I’m enjoying it.

Omg - TSTL is too kind a phrase for this chick. I really wanted to like this book. I’m going to finish it only because I keep hoping something will redeem her, but I’m not really hopeful.

Restarted. Story premise is interesting but the writing is awkward, word selection is forced is places and the pacing is off. Chapters drop off at odd times and subsequent chapters have no segue. Needs a strong editor.

Loving these books! They remind me of Kate Daniels, but aren’t a remake.

Quit. Heroine is not growing out of the TSTL zone, so I’m done with this series.

Not as good. Enemies to lovers too fast and without anything to draw them together other than mockery.

I had marked that I read this back in 2015 and gave it 2 stars at 69% completed. I have no memory of this as I’m reading now! We shall see…

DNF. It got too grim and fascist - which is a bit too reminiscent of the state of us right now. I can see that sort of thing watching the news (which I no longer do). Why subject myself to the same attitudes in a book?

DNF when I figured out this was a RH book. Not in the mood at the moment.

The only thing that’s bugging me so far is that this is supposed to be set in LA and people are talking like they’re from the country. It just doesn’t seem to fit. A USC professor talking like a hick is ridiculous.

Meh. It’s gotten a bit too out-there, silly for me. Just not my thing.

I really like this book - these women have been trampled, but they are turning it around.

Much better. Still some awkward phrasing, but better.

This one had a very different angle, but it did provide a good story. There is a tiny bit of character development for Brooke, so I am willing to keep reading to try to give her more of an opportunity. I didn’t notice as many word errors in this one, so that’s an improvement, as well.

Progressing well. Trying not to let the incorrect word usage keep me from enjoying the story.

Another good storyline.
The continued use of incorrect words is terribly distracting! “Ousted” when contextually it should have been “outed”, and “…displaying emotions that he most certainly didn’t inhabit.” People do not “inhabit” emotions. They can exhibit emotions or experience emotions, but they don’t inhabit them. I can’t understand why an editor wouldn’t have corrected these errors.
