So far so good. Goes straight to the topic. Skip the intro. In my opinion and experience with highly successful people, a pristine mind, seems to be what differentiates them. So I decided to pick this book and read.

Parham is 60% done with Trillion Dollar Coach: The Leadership Playbook of Silicon Valley's Bill Campbell
The book talks about leadership perhaps from a compassionate and character oriented perspective. It is a tribute to Eric Campbell, the (hidden) coach behind the leadership of companies like Google and Apple. It was interesting to see how it values qualities like giving, helping people grow, and honesty. It is mostly written by the former CEO of Google.

I like the book so far. It is more about wisdom than knowledge or new information. As I said, the other translation of the name of the book is "The book of life" or "Strategies". The translator's comments are sometimes out of context. I prefer to read the version without the translator comments which I just ordered.

First of all this book is not completely about war. But rather about strategies, written in the war terminology. Apparently back in time it was common to write lessons in the war related language. From the book:
"War is not a thing to be enjoyed, Victory is not something to benefit from."

This is a really good book so far. It is a research based analysis of why some companies did greater than others. But, the company is macrocosm of the people. Behind every great company is people with great characters with passion to build meaning products. Loved the level 5 leadership style, and how these humble, willful individuals take the company forward while not making too much noise about their achieveme

Read the summary on Blinkist. The idea is very important and applicable. Examples are not all my taste. Will read the full books anyways.

I liked the book so far. If you are doing a PhD, it helps to appreciate the deep work space we have. If not, it may motivate you to consider more long undistracted chunks of work to your schedule.

The introduction of the book really caught my attention. It started with nailing the idea of long focused work without distraction (= "Deep work") by using Jung as an example. Apparently, Jung built a cottage out of the city and he used to go there for retreats. He drafted his most well-known ideas during these retreats at the cottage he built. The book has a Silicon Valley vibe to it, but so far it was good.

I read to book until the part the Leonardo reached around age 40. I think I got what I needed from the book for now. The rest, I will read when I get older perhaps. It is a ~600 page book so takes time to read.
OVERALL:
If you are into interdisciplinary projects, or if you find your self simultaneously active in different disciplines anywhere from Art to Science, the life of Leonardo would be a wonderful learning.

-Leonardo was a mixed-raced born. His father Italian and his mom speculated to be Chinese or black according to historical records.
-He had not finished a single project by himself and was damn depressed when he hit 30s.
-He then moved to Milan and pitched some ideas to the mayor of the city listing 10 projects. NON of the projects had anything to do with painting. They were ALL engineering proposals.

Very interesting book so far! There are a lot of social beliefs that I would hesitantly question. Reading this book helped me to be more confident that a lot of our social definitions are just the result of decisions made by homo sapiens (humans) during the process of evolution.
