This book is interesting so far and I'm engaged, however, all the reviews saying the book is scary and dripping with dread etc are just fucking lying. It's not even really a horror book, more so a mystery. Not at all what I wanted or expected but I'ma finish anyways

Quantum physics does not require human consciousness. Don't think I've ever read an accurate description of the double slip experiment from any author that's not a physicist. Sorry McCarthy

This book is genius. So many things that apply to the real world too, unlike many psychology books which you believe are making good points and science but which you don't realistically see yourself applying the knowledge within. This book has genuinely changed the way I see...everything. It's therapy without being a therapy book, teaching you how you can recontextualize experiences/perception/memories to heal minds

Book is sometimes too repetitive. She often goes into long paragraphs about what emotions are NOT, which I get is important, but I wish it was more science and less history lessons; hoping the last half gets into more neuroscience.

Every time I open this book it breaks my mind. It seems to be one of the most sensible theories of how our body-brain-mind operates.

I feel like this is low-key a slow and hot and steamy romance but I'm honestly all for it; the setting, characters, language, and mystery are good. I love the setting, makes me want to swim.

Best ways to study: Retrieval - bring back information to your head, repeat often - & Spacing - space out learning, allow reinforcing memories.
Works better than rereading & highlighting & underlining (what I do lol)

2) Spotlight effect - we think others notice us more than they do
1) tied to general soc anxiety 2) social evaluation
