The book feels very uneven and I'm not yet sure why. I think there are a lot of writing choices - what parts of conversations and interactions are shown or not shown, which years are shown - that feel jarring and poorly applied. There are parts that seem written just to make you annoyed.

This book is awesome so far, idk why I passed it over a decade ago. Love the premise and the characters are interesting. Some characters are infuriating though - finding this similar feeling throughout Hill's work. Maybe I'm just a cold bastard, but I find the benefit of the doubt some characters give each other is insane and stupid.

This book is awesome in so many ways but goddamn the characters annoy me. I feel like some parts are too long too. But the parts that are cool are really fucking cool.

My most anticipated read, but so far the main character is such an unbelievably giant pussy that it's really hard to enjoy it, and the writing itself leaves a ton to be desired. Really hoping this changes.

Really good so far; I like the writing a lot, I like the fact that the author/character isn't apologetic about white supremacy, history, and religion. It's No Bullshit, it's not corny, the writing is good, and the crime is really fucked up.

Premise is extremely interesting and so is the writing, so far.

I am either going to HATE this book or love it. It is so fascinating & annoying. But annoying in a good way - I think? - because it is believable how annoying future humans are. But does the writing itself have to reflect this? It feels stilted & strange: not a pleasant combo as the reader. But still undeniably fascinating. Reading modern hard-sci-fi seems rewarding but a gamble: this will be total ass or v awesome.
