“I got on the phone and told her this New York City shit ain’t shit and I’d move back to Paris for a chance to fall in love with her one more time. She thought I was talking shit so smiled and said it was probably a bad time. But I was on my Ethan hawke before sunset shit”

“I mean what if we got back together? What if the starts aligned again and we got together and became great friends? But if I proceeded with this app, I knew there was no turning back. There was no horoscope hack that could change this fact. Yes, my emotional Cancer ass only always forgets to think before I act. I make villains and narratives in my head to get ahead, my mama taught me that.”

Dude. It’s CoStar.

So sorry, “avoid a pandemic it’s not the vibe.” My body physically cringed

“Consent is something two parties negotiate on the assumption that each side in the negotiation is who they say they are, but how can you determine consent when at the moment of negotiation both parties are so far from their true selves”. This and other comments throughout the chapter really make it seem like he just thinks women are lying to men saying they want sex when they don’t.

Contrary to Gladwell’s belief, it’s actually not difficult to NOT sexually assault someone. Imagine knowing the facts of the Stanford rape case and coming down on the side of “how is a guy supposed to know that a passed out woman doesn’t want sex??”

If Gladwell is so concerned about ‘victims of default to truth’ then why is he not also damming the legal system that makes everything need to be black and white to carry a case? Why is he insinuating that victims are lying more than he is talking about restorative justice for those who believed abusers? Why is he not talking about our social biases that make us have more trust to certain groups of people?

So far, absolutely disgusting victim blaming and a complete lack of understanding around the affects of childhood sexual abuse.

Please do not act as if it is some huge mystery as to why women got more lobotomies then men. You literally spend half a paragraph on it when most of the book has been about this practice. You literally say that lobotomies produce traits that were considered to be ideally female. Dude.

OH MY GOD I DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR FRIEND’S WEDDING ON SOME GREEK ISLAND. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR RELATIVE WHO WAS AN ABOLITIONIST. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT WHAT MYTHOLOGY YOUR DAUGHTER LIKES. JESUS.

This sucks. Why are you talking about yourself? I don’t really care about your journalism career. If you wanted to write a story about your family then do it man, just don’t sell your book with some patients name on the cover! A little messed up that you use the guy your grandfather lobotomized to frame the story of your grandfathers life.
