So far a 50 /50 selection of stories.

Giving Susan Choi another try. Trust Exercise was a miss for me but since this was up for a Booker Prize I decided to give it a go.

A physically heavy book at over 600 pages which will be hard on my old wrists. I've been putting off tackling this for a while. I would get it on Kindle but I've loaned my device to a friend who is reading a book for her book club that I happened to have bought a number of years ago.
So far I am engrossed in the details. But not especially the ones about leaches and pus filled jungle rot fingers.

I'm getting back to reading books collecting dust on my bookshelves. It's been ages since I read Irving. I hope this will get better because so far, it's pretty repetative. He also gets deep into the hows of logging.

I am still waiting for something to happen. This is moving too slowly for me. I was hoping to learn something about Sierra Leone and its history. At the moment it feels bogged down.

Loaned to me by a good friend I am determined to get through this read. So far it has not captivated me. Some books take a bit longer than others.

My reading experience with this book is a bit of a roller coaster. I cannot muster much affection for the MC, Jude. At times, there are brilliant scenes, and then things occur that make me feel ambivalent.

Having read a number of books set during WWII and the Jewish experience, this book is lacking. The young Jewish woman Sadie, although aged 19 is written as much younger in her reaction to her family's plight. The parallel storyline of Ella and her romantic interest is predictable. I'm not sure I will continue reading this book.

I am setting this aside. Just not for me.

A bit like a kiddie roller coaster. Chugging uphill slowly and enjoying the short lived downhills. 🙃 Today I found myself looking at the back of the book to calculate how many more pages to go.

I'm not certain I will stick with this book. I'm distracted and confused at this point.

I bought this book quite a while ago because I am a fan of short stories. This was on my shelf before the scandal of the author's daughter's abuse was revealed. I was on the fence about reading it after all and followed the group discussion on the topic. I decided as awful as the situation was, the author is no longer alive, and I may as well go ahead and read it.

Not what I expected

Sam Jordeson of The Guardian quotes a reviewer who referred to this book as "a chore". Yup! That is my feeling as I am making another attempt at it.

It's been a while since I read any of the Lucy Barton books. I am feeling like I should remember these characters but can't quite place them.

Working on clearing my Kindle. Not sure how I feel about this book so far. Not a likable MC. Writing is kind of off.

I know hockey is a physical sport but wow. The scene of the Lockeroom hazing in chapter 13 is awful. Right in front of the coaches at that.

Halfway through and I'm having an issue warming up to the MC

It is nice catching up with Jay Porter as he try’s to be a hero to the downtrodden of Houston area folks.

Reading a cookbook sounds like an odd read but this is like a wonderful story of a neighborhood and restaurant in NYC. Very fascinating.

It's a complicated explanation as to why I am reading this book.

I'm reading this because it was one of the books on GR's best of lists.
Also I snagged a hardcover copy at a library book sale.

So far it's pretty boring.

Loving this. I'm so glad I followed advice and am listening to the audio.

Struggling through. With such high ratings and accolades, I wonder if it is me. I found one reviewer who said it so clearly, blathering, long-winded endless sentences and nothing is happening page after page.
