Only 1/6th of the way in, and already I love this book 😍

It's that sad time of year when you have to take stock of all the books you haven't read and shuffle them around to your to-reads for another year...

I wasn't sure about this one at first but now I'm in DEEP.

Update: They also had dinner. And now someone's giving a speech. How can I ever handle this intense pace?

Update: I'm on page 100 and so far nothing has happened.

Not book-related, but RIP Koko the gorilla (a fellow cat lady). You were an extraordinary ambassador, and your very existence was a reminder to all of us that merely because other beings do not think or communicate like humans do, or because their intelligence is expressed differently than our own, they are no less worthy of dignity, compassion, and understanding.

I get to write a 30 page paper on the legality of the religious use of hallucinogens, so we're going to have some fun book reviews coming up in the next few months guys :)

Nothing kitchy or genre romance. Preferably strong plot AND strong characters, especially characters who love each other but both agree can't be together (think Inej and Kaz from 6 of Crows, or Locke and Sabetha from the Gentlemen Bastards series)

Aw, this book is exactly what I needed right now. Good, clean fun. Quirky and emotionally straightforward and light.

It makes me sad that dudes make Goodreads a place to prey on women or stand on their misogynistic soapbox and insult women. PSA: this is a place to discuss books you've read and your thoughts on them, to exchange ideas and recommendations with similarly-minded friends. This is not 4chan. This is not a place for you to do your mating dance and fluff your feathers. Do not try to make it one.

Have come to the conclusion that GR's sponsored book ads are not catered to your reading preferences at all, since I can't think of anything I've read that would give GR the impression I would want to read a book about an estranged mother and daughter that asks solemnly, "Can there be a heartfelt connection between these two troubled souls?" (...)

I knew- I *knew*- going into this that it was going to be a bunch of libertarian, formalist, blind-to-realism baloney. I just didn't expect it to be quite this annoying.

Oh, yes. I was a little uncertain at first but oh, yes, this is very well done.

I'm taking a vow of never again reading any YA (or any) book with a title that involves the words Rose, Thorn, Ice, Frost, Blood, Song, Wing, King, Queen, Shadow, Wind, Winter, Ember... We're done. We're at our fucking limit of times you can sensibly rearrange those. This is a finite permutation.

I already miss Inej, Nina, and Kaz! I know she planned on 6ofCrows just being a duology, but does anyone know if Bardugo is planning on letting them make an appearance in future series?

It's nice to know that whatever hell rains down outside, like a violent thunderstorm, Goodreads is the same, the online equivalent of listening to the storm from the comfort of a cozy armchair, with a little green library lamp, a mug of tea, and a stack of books. While 50 million other people point at the book in your lap and whisper in library-voices "Oooh that's a good one."

Lol tis the season when I keep wildly adding books to my "finish before the end of the year" shelf and life becomes a race against my own lack of self-control

Extremely sad to see Sandra Lee Bartky (author of "Femininity and Domination" and "Sympathy and Solidarity," among many essays) passed today. One of my fav philosophers, a fierce woman, an inspiring feminist, a brilliant mind. I can't recommend her writing enough to anyone who wants to change the way they think, or to give words to the way they feel.

I know it seems like I'm reading 50,000 books at once but four of them are textbooks so I'm really only reading three. I swear. *slowly lowers mountain of books*
