Laura is on page 40 of 176 of Die schreckliche Geschichte der abscheulichen Familie Willoughby (und wie am Ende alle glücklich wurden)
Tim is a total dickface. If he was a real kid I would rabbit punch him in the back of the head.

I am struggling with this book. It's almost half over and nothing has happened! We open with a dead man and no information, and that's still where things stand. If there was a wiki page outlining the plot I'd just read that and move on.

Laura is 7% done with The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake
Our narrator is 9 years old, or maybe an adult who is talking hyper-detailed about her childhood. But then we get lines like this: "Find a Wife hadn't been on any visible list, but [Dad] had proposed earlier than most of his peers and something did seem to get checked off inside him once they were married." -- how would a child know this about their parent?! Maybe the author should have gone with 3rd person narrator.

Laura is on page 62 of 353 of Strange Practice (Dr. Greta Helsing, #1)
The author is doing that thing where she adds in a lot of hesitating and uncertain words to sentences where they are not needed, and it's driving me crazy. Lots of "apparently"s tacked on for no reason, and a great sentence of defiance ruined by adding "if she could help it" on the end. This book is pitting a fantastic plot and characters against weak writing crutches, and I fear the outcome.

Laura is on page 71 of 1079 of Infinite Jest
The author has described the bodies and attractiveness of each of the female characters but not more than a passing comment ("brown hair") for any of the male characters. This does not bode well.

Page 25: "spinster librarian" - seriously? This tired cliche ceased to exist in the real world decades ago. When will male writers finally catch up?

Something bad is going to happen, and it's a race between getting to the bad stuff and the suspense killing me.
