I love books

Honestly I had been hesitant to read this because I didn’t think I would like it based on some of the reviews I’ve read. But so far I’ve found it to be pretty fun and definitely entertaining. We’ll see if that lasts, and I hope it does!

A woman, well into the second trimester of pregnancy, rushes home for something. Upon finding her 5yo on the roof refusing to come down, she decides just this once she will let her daughter fly! So the kid jumps and the pregnant mother catches her…WHAT THE HELL

I’m struggling with this. The writing feels forced. Like the dialogue and some of the descriptions of minute actions just piss me off for some reason. A character hits a traffic jam running late: “She pressed the brake pedal, bringing the car to a stop, and slumped against the seat.” Idk.

Whyyyyyy is Elizabeth Strout so good????

A few audible chuckles from me so far. Definitely character-driven.
