There are too many characters. I can’t keep them straight, and I don’t care.

[pursed lip smile] I had been coming around to it… and then the unspeakable monster was a butterfly. That is so god damned corny in a book that was already pretty corny, and I’m not sure I want to keep going.

I’m curious to see how this is new weird and not just fantasy or sci fi. Maybe I’m just jaded, but a lady with a bug head, and a world with other creatures does not new weird make.

Probably not a great sign I laughed out loud at this serious horror novel. Or at least, I’m pretty sure serious horror novel. It doesn’t read like any of my favorite horror comedy’s

There is no reason this book couldn’t have been two books. Honestly, it should have just been one book, with the first half of this books most interesting differences from the SAME THING that happened in book one moved into that book, and then the front half of this one just deleted!

I’m not sure I will finish this. It has none of the charm of the first one, and is exceptionally more exhausting.

Wow… this devolved from a five star read to a four in the first hour, and then tripped over the edge yo a two star read in a matter of paragraphs.

Holy shit, this book got stupid.

Fuck… this book is so boring. It’s too long, nothing is happening, it’s just talking at each other, and I don’t care. I live here. I know how big the west hills are. I lived in Saint John’s. I’ve been to the Pittock Mansion… it wouldn’t take a day to walk there, let alone drive. Don’t use real places if you’re not going to use real geography. Fuckin’ hack, dick.

This is our book club book for this month… and dang… I don’t know if I can do it. It’s so needlessly wordy, and filled to the gills with repetitive word vomit.

Just because you say, ā€œ-he’d been tricked into another old chestnut of a jumpscare,ā€ doesn’t mean you did a jumpscare.

The book is full of shit like this, and it’s so lame. Try being actually scary instead of telling me I should be scared.

… the tone of this book is fuckin’ all over the place.

And who the fuck is it for? It’s half written like it is for adults, half for elementary children.

It’s a mess, and I hate it. I have enough time I could pick a different book for my summer reading challenge… but I’m not sure.
