absolutely loving this so far 🥹

She delighted in the smell of the ink, the rough feel of the paper between her fingers, the rustle of sweet pages, the shapes of the letters before her eyes. And most of all, she loved the way that books could transport her from her otherwise mundane and stifling life and offer the experiences of a hundred other lives.
Through books she could see the world.

the average rating for this is 3.66 which i know would throw many people off but man this is why you can’t always trust ratings and reviews cause i am having a blast with this! you really never know.

i’m THIS close to becoming a big fan of this author and reading her backlist. the way she writes is awesome—super engaging and every page ends with something new that i wanna unravel and continue reading.

Books sheltered her from the reality of an unhappy childhood, letting her hide between the pages of a story whenever real life got too loud. In an adulthood that proved to be no less problematic, books provided her with work, money, and purpose. Books kept a roof over her head and books put food on her table. She owes whatever happiness she has in the real world to fiction.

just wanna say that i’m going to be pretty inactive for the rest of the year bc i’ve gone back to college. it’s going to take up a lot of my socialization and reading time. i’ll try to hop on here and there but don’t promise any interactions. the most reading i’ll be doing involve my textbooks. 😭

They'd been told over and over that all they could do was ruin their babies' lives. But on that long, hot, empty afternoon, they tasted what it would be like to see their babies, to hold them, to smell them, and it felt so real, and so true, that for a moment they felt like what they were, they felt like mothers, and it stunned them into silence.

What the future held, I could not say. But we would have more adventures together, of that I was certain, and I could not wait to begin them.

just removed every single book off my tbr to the point where i only have two!!! (ok not every single one since i have two). i feel free!! 🤩 there are a lot books i wanna read but i literally never get to them and having them on my tbr kinda distracts me. 🤷🏻‍♀️ the great thing about not being a mood reader is that i read whatever i feel like reading whenever so i’ll get to them…eventually.

He glanced once more at my lavish display of décolletage and edged as far from me as he could upon the velvet seat. He turned to look out the window, his mouth set in a rigid line, his hands clenched into fists on his thighs. I would have given a king’s ransom to know his thoughts just then. But he betrayed no hint of them. And I did not ask.

I thrust the key into the depths of my décolletage. “Very well. Come and get it.”
He hesitated, his fingertips just brushing the tops of my breasts. I caught my breath and held his gaze, daring him to move.
“Bloody bollocking hell,” he said, dropping his hand.

This was not the end, then. Whatever this strange connection was between us—it was not yet finished. He shook his head as if to clear it.
“I am glad this is not the end,” he said, echoing my thoughts, and then he hesitated a moment, his gaze intent, his hands curling into fists as if to keep himself from reaching out.
