Really enjoying this so far- several LOL moments. Witty banter, sexy hero, damaged heroine, enemies to lovers- lots of fun!

Oh my. Was not expecting much- much half-arsed fantasy out there. But I am close to a third through this and am absolutely hooked. No shitty grammar. No misspelt words. No malapropisms and no glaring anomalies in the plot. Initially, didn’t much like the FMC- too aggressive and sexually pragmatic (has sex if she “needs to fuck”). The world she lived in was pretty damned depressing. Enjoying the ride for now😅

This is so bad I cannot believe Penny Reid agreed to accept it in her Smartypants series. The writing- a pseudo-Regency English style that has more modern Americanisms than you could poke a stick at- is atrocious. Way to ruin a terrific book . Stick to the original, folks.

This is the strangest book- it's like the MCs are living in a perpetual fog. The MMC is actually quite repugnant- detached, disinterested and debauched. I am getting flashbacks to Albert Camus' The Stranger,, and not in a good way. The FMC seems to just accept her life is shit and carry on coldly, totally divorced from any strong feelings. Now a brutal murder. All very disturbing. Not sure if I can go on.

DNF. Shy, inexperienced girl turns into vamp overnight with guy she’s disliked and avoided for years. No tension, no logical flow, hackneyed plot. Nothing grabs me, so I’m dropping it.

Oh shit- the M Word. As in Mafia. I don’t do Mafia pseudo-romance at ALL. I’ll give it a few more pages in case I am jumping to conclusions ( but the hero’s statement: “I AM the Mafia” is fairly unambiguous). What is this fascination for brutal, ruthless, murdering bastards who just add to human misery with their drug and flesh business? Mafia genre is hackneyed at best, morally corrupt at its worst. Ugh.

JT’s writing is lovely, as always- perfect turns of phrase. But I am reading this with great trepidation. If it’s more Rules of Engagement/Slow Burn, I’m great. If it’s anything like Midnight Valentine I will be devastated. BDSM is getting old for me (thanks for nothing, stupid 50 Shades) and mind-fuckery not appreciated in Corona virus times. Please let it be Slow Burn!

I am enjoying this much more than I expected to, which is lovely. I am certainly interested in the next one in the series. Gotta say, husband/wife writing teams are great for getting the hero/heroine balance right, the action scenes vivd and the romance bang on. After too many alpha-hole heroes in
CR recently, this is great. Yes, its violent, but the MCs are appealing and I am invested in their success. Yay me!!

I don’t know why I’m reading this. The nice virginal girl being played by the arsehole SEAL (are they, like, gods or something? As an Aussie, I don’t get it- they’re soldiers. So?) He lies and tells his mates she gives him blow jobs because his macho ego won’t let him admit to the bros that she hasn’t given him any yet. . What a pig. I’m having a really bad feeling about this one...

Listening to Nicholas Boulton and I am in heaven. And laughing, as I realise the „afro“ label on the salt jar must stand for aphrodisiac, not African! That poor duke! So far, just the sweet pleasure I need in this “time of the Virus.”

Ok this is starting out quite distasteful and the hero, I guess, is describing in great detail a threesome he is having on “Tasty Tuesday”. Now, I get he is some kind of rock star but do I need to have that juvenile cliché thrust in my face from the very beginning? ( Beats having what those girls had thrust in their faces, I guess). Not respecting the douche could mean a dnf but I’ll give it a bit more time.

About a quarter of the way through this KU offering and have realised it seems to be set in South Africa, which is novel for me. Having said that, heroine Daff is a total bitch- spiteful, tactless but a bit pathetic too. Hero Spence is a sweet gigantic rugby player who deserves much better. Not grabbing me really, and not sure how far I will get, when Daff is so mean and obnoxious.....

Oh dear- another weak, trembly, fragile heroine, and too much time where hero and heroine are apart. On the plus side, Severin is witty and unintentionally funny. Not sure if I buy into the “hard-arse, coldly pragmatic alpha is saved by sensitive, doormat chick” trope.

Praying that LK is back in form. (After the last few, which I didn't particularly like, I went back to the classics- Hathaways and Wallflowers- and realised how far her recent efforts have moved from these.)

Couple of awkward malapropism-type errors but it’s ok so far. But three things in this book will always repulse me, unfortunately. Strip Clubs (because I don’t understand the American hypocrisy of Church and all it entails side-by-side with strip clubs), cage fighting (no can do) and a dark choc muffin WITH BACON CRUMBLES. Ee-ew! Gross. Oh and Country & western music. That makes 4 things. Hmmm.....

Dammit. I was moved. It was actually rather lovely in the end. We all make bad life choices at times. If we are lucky, there are no permanent consequences. But we deserve to have a chance to make better ones. A surprisingly sweet story.

Why the hell am I reading this? It’s excruciating. To see the hero allow himself to be humiliated over and over, have him service other women after being with the heroine: I’m squirming and feeling revolted. Reminds me of Clinton: I did not have sex with that woman. Excuse me- you fucking did, mate.

It would be nice if. Just once. Catherine could actually win a fight when she has shifted. Doesn’t matter which animal she becomes- she always gets hammered. Frankly, these shifters are weak as piss. Vampires and witches are far superior in these books. That’s why I am enjoying the Psy-changeling series: those shifters are intelligent and strong. Catherine is just an angry teenager.
