John Hanson is on page 50 of 312 of Living a Feminist Life
Apparently I suck at feminism, so I am reading up to arm myself. I already know the injured white male snowflakes, but it's the denying women that confound me. And the politically correct minefields. It's a very academic text, and I'm afraid it's aimed more at the academic than the practitioner.

John Hanson is on page 3 of 250 of The New Twenty
Attended Tony's workshop last week. It was a fantastic day, and I learned important elements of story writing. I disagreed with a few things though, such as the need for only five edits. I found an error right away on the first page:

-The story is written in present tense, yet a narrator's line reads, At that precise point in time, Jack is wondering … At that precise point in time is past tense.

Beautiful writing. Kalfar is an author to watch.

John Hanson is on page 3 of 300 of The Badger Riot
On the first page of the prologue, the young Beothuk pauses to rest, letting the canoe drift with the current. The problem is he is paddling upriver from the coast, made clearly evident in the next paragraphs. Some slight stage management in the first few pages: "tore his eyes away from the flood scene." Not hopeful of the best read.

I can see how most would be bothered by this novel. It is a combination satirical and additive style, both of which tend to turn readers off.

Even though I decry anthropomorphism, I am really enjoying this read.

What a fun read! Not your typical, ultra-literary, what-the-blazes-was-this-about-anyway short story collection. These characters are real and accessible, the language demotic, the stories a bit thin but certainly not trite. These are stories that stay with you.

This is my 3rd ever LeCarré book, maybe my 4th. I really enjoy him. He`s detailed, subtle, and he works the long-term tension. It`s not full of thrilling action, but I don`t like putting it down. His prose is a joy to read, a master of language.

Dated and broad. Not much on nuts & bolts, boots on the ground editing. A very worthy read though, for me.

Compelling but full of stereotype and chiché. The prose is rather uninteresting and plain vanilla. But yeah, the story is pulling me along.

This seems aimed at space cadets new to the academy, but her voice is vibrant and interesting and revisits many of the basics. So far it is more psychological than technical.
