But the most crazy bonkers part is the FMC lusting after someone who poisoned her for fun. I like enemies to lovers, but this is so toxic and scary. Wth. And why the heck are we helping the crazed murderer? That made no sense. I don't know why I've picked up the 2nd book, but I already have. Wish me luck.

This book is both good and terrible. I guess it's maybe the writing that is good, but the story and tropes that are bad. All the illegal and graphic things going on in this book feel absolutely crazy because we're talking about young teens who have been in this life for a long time, and are somehow the most feared people in multiple towns.

And I couldn't see the appeal of her vampy love interest. He came across as weak, flighty, inconsiderate, and kinda gross. I think they were just trying to show her strengths and create drama for the plot, but... I couldn't remember why she's with him...

A good, urban fantasy, vampire/werewolf story. Reminiscent of some iconic stories from the past, and made me kind of nostalgic. Gritty and fun. I think alot happened though, it was a bit much.

Maybe it was the book more than the narrator, but the characters just felt a bit off from how I know them.

An enjoyable mystery and adventure. The daughter was kind of insufferable though. Not as funny as I usually find these. I listened to the audio for this one, and found that the narrator gave some of the characters different personalities than I did. Like, I know Zav is bossy and haughty, but I see him as more sly and playful than oblivious and controlling these days.

Like, why does Molly look 10-20 years older than Fitz? And so much like Hod? I also struggled to tell Burrich, Verity, and Shrewd apart.
And the artist had a tendency to draw the eyes looking in different directions, and horses to have forward facing eyes. It makes it quite unsettling.

This reminded me of why I liked the first two books so much, but also reminded me of what a disappointment the third was. I enjoy this a bit less because the 3rd novel ruined alot of the characters for me.
I do think the artist did a great job of portraying the story. But I don't think they're very good at portraying age. Many of the kids had wrinkles and bone structure that children should not.

I was kind of bored by this one, until the mysteries started being investigated, and the sister started using her power.

Once again, beautiful art. The characters were a bit better in this one.. The story had an epic atmosphere, like sci fi action movies. There are just times that I'm confused by the way people act or the course of action chosen.

A kooky, cozy read. A great mixture of chill and action. The only thing is that I didn't really understand the world-building super well. It felt like we were plopped down into a well known world that's been around for some time. Except, I've never heard of it, and I don't know what's going on. Still definitely enjoyed it though.
