The Warrior Elite: The Forging of SEAL Class 228
To summarize, this entire book is a play-by-play for the BUD/S Navy SEAL training. With the Navy SEALs being such a superior, mysterious fighting force, not a lot of people know much about what those men go through to get where they are. This book itself is a summary of how hard it is to wake up at the crack of down and train to protect their country against the worst threats imaginable. (S)

The writer is very good with word choice at every point in the book. Every possible second, the book never fails to remind you that the training you’re reading about is brutally difficult. (WS)

If had to predict how things wind up I would predict that at least 5 more people in the class fail before training is complete (p).

Something interesting I learned from this book is that staying in the water for hours on end for one straight week, also known as “drownproofing,” is one of the most beneficial experiences a Navy soldier can have in training (f)

A moment that inspires me is when a ember of Class 228 fails the training due to a medical issue. Hen it is determined issue was a possible reason for failure, he was asked if he wanted to be scheduled for the next class beginning in a few months. He replied yes to this and ended up also so so becoming a Navy SEAL.

As I read this book, I am realizing that one of the leaders of the class known as Bill Gallagher is extremely similar friend in real life Dillon. Anytime he gets a chance to show them, he flexes his leadership skills no great ways. (C)

The marines run over 15 miles a day to earn the right to eat, along with brutal team training and obstacle courses among other things. How would you hold up during this ruthless marine training day in and day out?

One of my favorite recurring parts of this book so far is when the instructors force the men to go into the surf of the ocean. This happens either periodically or when the group doesn’t meet a specific goal that’s been set for them. (F)

Summary- as the trainees go through “Hell Week,” instructors brief the men in what is required to get through the rest of the camp. This includes a very extensive medical examination as well as a bumped up version of the conditioning that they have already been going through.

Themes of this book include extremely detailed descriptions of day to day life for the trainees so far. It is clear that the writer makes an attempt to engrain an idea in your mind of just what it is that these men went through. (T)

The things that Bud/s class 228 have to go through is extremely demanding, so many of them drop out as the class wages on. Going into week 3 of their training with a third of the class gone, I predict they will lose 10 more people within the week.

This book so far has been extremely informational. It is as if the reader gets a glimpse into some of the things our Navy SEAL teams went through, such as the mission involving an advanced radio tower in Grenada. If I could ask the author a question, I would ask him how he became interested enough in the Navy SEALS to actually follow a team around and write a book about it.

Hard America, Soft America: Competition vs. Coddling and the Battle for the Nation's Future
P- I predict that within the final chapter of this book I will figure out what all the examples of things becoming hard or soft in America have been leading up to. I am excited to find this out, for the book has made some good points on its main topic.

A- How does the writing of the books "Rabbit is Rich" and "Barbarians at the Gate" truly tie into the idea of America Hardening in that time period?

F- One of my favorite things within this book are transitions from hard to soft. Throughout the different topics discussed in the story, they all transition from hard to soft or even soft to hard for different reasons. This is interesting to me because I did not think that these things were happening within our country, but some things that were mentioned in the book have been going on since the 1900's.

C- I can connect with this book because I have experienced looking back on a disaster. It gives you a chill to know what happened the day that a disaster happens and that is what Krakuauer is experiencing by looking back on the Mount Everest disaster.

W- the author is writing the novel skillfully based on his own recollection of this event. This is a skilled way to do this, considering he was a primary witness to the disaster of Mount Everest. He makes sure that the reader is always filled in on what has happened throughout the story so that they can continue on with understanding the rest.

I infer that Krakaur's team will make it to the summit of Mount Everest very soon. It can make this inference because Hill is continuously saying to his teammates that they only have as little ways left to go, and that is keeping the group going at a rapid rate.

I infer that the group with Krakaur will make it to the peak of Everest within the next 20 pages. This is because I believe the narrator is hinting towards this by saying that they are nearing the summit of the mountain.

T- a theme of this book is that multiple characters continuously pop up with tragic pasts involving mountain climbing. Tragic pasts bring the theme range from deaths of friends and loved ones to the loss of limbs, so this I seems to be becoming a theme within the story.
