To summarize, this entire book is a play-by-play for the BUD/S Navy SEAL training. With the Navy SEALs being such a superior, mysterious fighting force, not a lot of people know much about what those men go through to get where they are. This book itself is a summary of how hard it is to wake up at the crack of down and train to protect their country against the worst threats imaginable. (S)

“Tone is always measured in a serious manner- never cavalierly or with any sense of bravado.” To be cavalier is to show a lack of proper concern; offhand. (V)

The officers within each graduating BUD/S class must attend an extra four-week training program known as the Junior Officers Training Course. This course is designed to train the next generation of leaders for the US Armed Forces (f).

The writer is very good with word choice at every point in the book. Every possible second, the book never fails to remind you that the training you’re reading about is brutally difficult. (WS)

If had to predict how things wind up I would predict that at least 5 more people in the class fail before training is complete (p).

Something interesting I learned from this book is that staying in the water for hours on end for one straight week, also known as “drownproofing,” is one of the most beneficial experiences a Navy soldier can have in training (f)

A moment that inspires me is when a ember of Class 228 fails the training due to a medical issue. Hen it is determined issue was a possible reason for failure, he was asked if he wanted to be scheduled for the next class beginning in a few months. He replied yes to this and ended up also so so becoming a Navy SEAL.

As I read this book, I am realizing that one of the leaders of the class known as Bill Gallagher is extremely similar friend in real life Dillon. Anytime he gets a chance to show them, he flexes his leadership skills no great ways. (C)

The marines run over 15 miles a day to earn the right to eat, along with brutal team training and obstacle courses among other things. How would you hold up during this ruthless marine training day in and day out?
