The long-forgotten feeling of "how does she even come up with a plot like this"? Amazing start that grips you and doesn't let go.
Amazing character development, so non-chalant, yet so thorough and relatable. So glad I picked up this book!

Got about halfway through, and had to start from the beginning and to allow myself more time to understand it.

A soup of very controversial ideas, crazy, but making sense, with some brilliant statements. Hard to put it together in my mind into a cohesive narration, but still worth it

A recent "argument" at the office about this book made me move it up on my to-read list. So far, 70 pages in, it's the best book I've read in a while. The writing is just exquisite. And I genuinely am at a loss of what people get so twisted about. She's an amazing writer, and I feel like this story could be about any other two countries, any other nationality. To me, it is so much more than a story of MX immigrants

The fact that it's so choppy in jumping from time period to time period, makes it harder to connect to the characters and empathize. I expected it to show the progression of relationship, and then grief, but it basically starts with grief and focuses on grief all the way. I find the title deceiving

I expected an account of someone’s journey to US citizenship, hard but fascinating as they always are, with a touch of bitterness, judging by the name. So far it’s been a whole lot of bitterness generously sprinkled with hypocrisy and blatant ignorance of facts.

Written with such kindness, and so completely non-partisan. It is really about women's nature more than anything else.

If you're in love with LA, or have a love/hate relationship with it like me, this is definitely a must-read. Amazing historical facts, how it's become what it is. And very well written at that, easy read.

Well this did not go down well. I don't know if I just cannot get in sync with the rhythm of the book, if it is too dark for me right now, or just not my style, but it is a torture at this point. And although I rarely put away unfinished books this one will have to go on hold for now.

Such a detailed dissection of Robin's life, from childhood, through early days of stardom, and on. Yet, not boring at all. No idolization, no trash talking either, just a life of a human that had more events in one week than most of us have in one year. I am not in a rush to finish it, I like it.

It’s an easy fiction-like read, some interesting facts. But mostly looks like a lot of unverified facts, VERY far-fetched conclusions, and a general lack of understanding of Russian culture and mentality.
It’s entertaining anyway
