I’ve almost thrown down my kindle in anger a few times. How can the main character be this dumb? How did she not realize she was gonna get burned by playing both sides. It’s not a bad book I’m just very frustrated by some of the characters

Why aren’t the fearmancers running haunted houses and theme parks? Normal people are willing to pay good money to be scared given the right circumstances.

Had to put this down and walk away for a bit. It’s one bad thing after another and not enough good in between to make the suffering worth it. Like I’ll go back to this later but I am too anxious and need a break before I finish this book.

I’m running into a lot of little things that bother me. MC is 17 or 18. She is from Canada, but somehow ended up in Italy working as a nanny to a kid with out of control fire power. Why would you hire a regular person when someone with fire Magic would be more useful in helping him control his gift? I don’t know it’s a lot.

So far the best part of the book is reading what Trump said. It’s one thing to see it on TV, it’s another to actually read what he said in a speech and see the spiraling insanity of it all.

So basically no one cares unless a man gets sick, because surely he isn’t just being hysterical about an illness

If I was more of a jerk I would wrap this up and give it as a Christmas Present to all the libertarians in my life. This is a pretty good example of why we need the government to make rules and uphold regulations, the free market wouldn’t have been able to sort this problem by itself

Reading a book that details just how horrible it is to die of radiation poisoning is probably not the best reading choice for someone who is terrified that a nuclear war is about to break out. Still it's well written and I'm enjoying it so far.

The writing is t very good, I actively hate the main character and I am fairly certain I have guessed who the Iron King is. And yet I can't stop reading.

And it looks like our main character is about to get the full Carrie treatment from the popular boy she likes in 3....2...1

Let's see .... written in first person, the main character is insufferably whiny, and something bad is about to happen to an innocent dog. No really these are my three strikes I should be out of here, but I quit one book recently can't do this in another

"Than went to her room and, in invisible mode, conversed with the hamster and the tortoise. “I love her,” he said in each of their tongues. “And she’s hurt. Please comfort her. Can you please?”

"If she picks me up!” The hamster said, as he ran round and round. “Good human! Good human! I’ve known others, and she’s good! If she picks me up, I’ll lick her with my tongue!”

I can't think of a single time I've read about someone tossing a dog at someone before. It was done in a semi dangerous situation where a dog had startled horses, but I still don't see how throwing a fox terrier through the air for someone to catch would have improved the situation.

So far I'm not even 10% through and already the author has mentioned someone smelling like Haiku perfume. I love perfume and I had never heard of this one, turns out it's not a designer brand it's a perfume by Avon. I wonder if the author sells Avon on the side?

The main character wakes up from a coma and is thinking remarkably clearly. She finds out that both of her parents died and while understandably upset she thinks about the outcome of a swim meet that happened while she was in a coma.

Oh sweet baby Zeus in a blanket, in this book the God of death Thanatos goes by the nickname Than. I really hope this gets better

The book is very well written. I kind of feel like I'm having a hard time reading about class warfare and revolution right now given how depressed and worried I am about my country's own political future

I was trying to think of something nice to say about the book. Like how the premise of a character raised in cult taught to hate something, then turning into the thing they hate and fear could make for some really interesting reading. Sadly it's all terribly executed, and the writing reeks of immaturity. I actively hate the main character

I'm just going to keep posting exceptionally stupid passages of this book whenever they occur.

I kid you not this sentence really did appear in this book, spoken by an adult woman who is supposed to be of reasonable intelligence and maturity.

“You look like you’re bunged up and trying too hard to push to squeeze a poop out.”

This is going to be a long and painful read.

Not even a quarter of the way through the book and I am already compiling a lot of things that piss me off for the eventual review. But I am still reading which is good?

Much like life this book seems be 80% boring and tedious, 20% profound and beautiful.

The last chapter was like having a really intense philosophical/political debate with friends at three in the morning. Part of me wanted to copy and paste large portions of it onto Facebook for the debates it might start up. Instead I'll just recommended that you read this book.

Yep still dutifully chipping away at this book. Again it's well written, but reading it just feels like work. I'm not really enjoying it
