L.A. is starting Moon of the Crusted Snow (Moon, #1)
Was excited for this but I can’t figure out who its audience is. It’s got a weird obsession with propriety, like it’s trying to teach the reader how to behave/what is “right,” making it seem very YA. (And schoolmarm-ish.)

Stilted character interactions and obvious dialogue.

Yeah, this isn’t going to break my reading slump.

Sports lit for kids/teens is rare stuff these days, which is unfortunate. This is legit so far, despite a favorable comment about Florida State.

1/3 through. Didn’t know much about this going in—it’s in the sci-fi section of my bookstore, but should really be in general fiction. I appreciate its cultural aspects and have paused a few time to look up recipes! But the family drama is wearing. Her family fucking blows and her putting up with it is so antithetical to my personality that even reading about it drives me insane. Not sure I can finish it.

Reams of mind numbing domestic blather that no one decided needing editing. Bonkers.

You know how, like, sometimes when a book is so ass-bad you don't know whether to stop reading it or continue reading it purely so that you can accurately excoriate it to strangers regularly for the rest of your life? I'm at that part of the book.

growing more and more weary of this book and its church-lady righteousness and generic/pointless dialogue and scenes. but I am so close to the end, I will finish it.

conflicted so far . . . it is compelling, I like the writing style - and the foodie indulgences, of course. but I don't know if I can take the premise. the acquiescence and self-sublimation just pisses me off, frankly.

IV & V. having trouble collecting my thoughts on this book. not what I expected. seems so far an acute study of that alien: the believer. the worldly one grown sick of the world who then bolts like a deer to its opposite - spirituality/God/whatever - for a new direction. the unchecked optimism in belief and free will is a bit hard to take, really.
