The writing is just so awkward and juvenile. The interactions are juvenile. Nothing is happening. Contradictions at every corner. Is Evie a secret and just an ordinary kid or does she have the entire fortress wrapped around her finger??

The plot is so weak. And how many times do we have to hear Odessa tell people, “Just Odessa.” I hate when characters are so forcibly “relatable” or nice.

I just don’t see why the Guardian is obsessed with her, teaching her, paying her any mind. This happens when there is poor set-up.

The writing isn’t my favorite. Like the character development and word building portions are tough. The Guardian is described as a really godlike character, scary, mean, etc, but all we see is actually a super lighthearted and teasing version of him. The talk doesn’t match the walk.

1. Spy lessons? Ok that’s ridiculous.
2. You walk around wearing a crown.. of course people will notice and act differently.

I feel like she’s way too mean lol. Like i get black cat, but she’s almost unbearably mean.

The history is frankly a little confusing.

So far, not seeing the hype. Already noticing some continuity errors.

So so cute. One of those books you want to read slowly so it doesn’t end.

This fake dating premise doesn’t make any sense. Why would that even work in this situation??

Really convenient that the person they’ve been searching for and how Bryce finds him is completely not depicted.

Really dislike the random switches to second person.

Man, this writing is so bad. The dialogue is so unnatural and awkward and it’s like Luci is constantly narrating her internal monologue like she’s reading off a grocery list. The characters try too hard to be funny so it comes off ridiculous.

Wow, okay. This book is really bad so far. I don't think it'll get any better because the writing is just so bad. It's constant word vomit, info-dump with writing that feels stiff and middle-grade. The FMC is unlikeable. There are run on sentences galore, dialogue that doesn't flow... I'm going to try pushing through.
