Read for the first time in French 1 year ago; now listening to the audio book in Danish. Hoping this will help with Danish audible comprehension... but so far I'd be completely lost if I didn't already know what was going on. Why is Danish so hard to parse. :'(

Well, here we go. Had no idea there was such a deadpan-absurdist humor in this writing (at least so far). Queequeg reads as kind of Maori to me... is that the intent? I can't tell if his character satirizes the biases and racism of the time (and I should be impressed), or is intended to accurately represent it (and I should be offended).

This is... really really bad. First date / business negotiation - no chemistry at all, and their "connection" boils down to "so, do you like f*cking?". This isn't even a bad-but-you-kind-of-love-it kind of book... just really cringe.

Characters are hyperbolic and extremely cliche... I'm expecting this to be trash, but who knows. Maybe I'll be surprised. It's been on my borrowed list for months, and I'm hoping it'll count for the Feb Kindle challenge. If nothing else, it's a palette cleanser.

I think this one is going to be pretty out-there... and likely trippy. But for some reason I kind of like it so far?
