I can see where someone might not like the tone at this point. It's all from Egwene's perspective as a 9yo. Specifically the roles of men and women. Her commentary on marriage seems strange. She's 9 if he just put her age at 12/13, it wouldn't have felt so out of place. At the same time, it says girls at 18 and wait a few years to get married, so 21, 22? That actually sounds late for this small rural town vibe.
