This is painful. So, so many mixed up words that stall the story, unlikable main character, and not enough development. I'm out.

This is a magical world and people have healing powers; why is she waking up all bandaged instead of healed? How does her super special familiar not know what happened?

The author just wrote that something was "memorising" rather than mesmerizing. These errors are littered throughout the book.

There is really not enough world-building happening here. The interactions are also really odd. The aunt is totally blasé about meeting her niece for the first time, and the main character's reaction to the Tim situation is weird. Plus the author keeps repeating things so it makes the main character seem really dumb bc she keeps being surprised by info she already learned.

This is not good. Now we are meeting four guys, and the author just refers to him - which him? So far there is a tall one, twins, and a fourth with no descriptor? So confusing and poorly written. Even in that short introduction, the author mixes up whether it was Thomas or Kenneth that spoke first.

I am so confused. The letter from the mom stated the daughter had been 18 for a few weeks, and I believe they are supposed to be in Australia. Why would they need fake IDs to drink if they are legal drinking age?

"The day had starts at 4 AM"? Really wishing the author had gotten an editor. The dialogue is pretty stilted overall too.

How is Tim using a key to get into the house after climbing a tree to second story? Is the author suggesting 1) the windows have locks on them from the outside and 2) those locks use the same key as the front door? Weird choices already starting...

First person present tense is so incredibly off-putting. I was hoping it would just be for the dream that starts the story; sadly, it is not.

It's never good when you make your MC pedantic about grammar within a book already riddled with errors.

Okay, this really makes no sense. Maverick is in there and was able to find both twins with no problem. He could have just told Wyatt to tank the thing and it would have been done. Feels like a pretty big plot hole.

I am still pretty lost by the basic plotting of the story. If you are in the bottom of the pack, you get sent home. Why is everyone so worried about Wyatt when he could easily just get sent home if he doesn't want to be there? They say it's bc they threatened him with Jesse, except the last he saw, she was thrown off a cliff. It just doesn't make sense. Also, why would the dad toss her in like this to get him out?

I don't understand this. The only other cops we hear about are the two potentially shady cops and the trustworthy police chief, but does Mac go to the chief at any point? No. Does he continuously - and casually - break the law? Yes. Does he bring a bunch of untrained morgue workers into his shenanigans instead of the supposedly trustworthy chief or any coworkers he can trust? Also yes. This guy is the worst cop.

Burg has publicly displayed memorabilia on his walls that includes super rare artifacts. He points out a trophy and says that now only he, Sophie, and his dad know about it. Um, it's publicly displayed, and paranormals live a long time. It's ludicrous to think no one else has ever noticed or recognized it. It just doesn't make sense to have something be a massive secret and be proudly displayed in public.

Aside from my issues with the writing, some of the plot choices just make no sense. Sophie just got Pliny the Younger IPA from Russian River; that beer is very limited release and is not widely available. Bars do get it in the SF are, but it was jarring to read that with no context as opposed to the widely available Pliny the Elder IPA.

How exactly is Claire filing away questions about colors she doesn't recognize to ask about later? All of this is supposedly new to her, so she doesn't have descriptive language for the items otherwise, so she'd need to be with the items to ask. Why not just ask then?

So far Aaron has gone from having dark hair to white-blonde back to dark, and his scar has gone from pale to bright red. Lack of continuity is a big turnoff of mine.

They want to hide that Claire has her sight back, but as far as I can tell, she's not actually doing anything to hide it. She's walking around looking at everything in wonder - how is that supposed to hide she now can see? I mean, the headmaster could tell right away she had her sight; shouldn't that have been a tip off that she needed to be more surreptitious?

I don't think I'm going to make it through this book. They are already repeating conversations (within 1 page!), grammar issues are already driving me crazy, and I'm getting annoyed by the sloppy plotting.

Okay, so Claire wakes up and whines about not knowing shapes or colors, goes to physical training briefly, and eats breakfast. Not enough time for any deep learning about stuff, right? But she can then suddenly recognize all of the creatures and their activities in the murals she sees while walking down the hall after breakfast. Sloppy plotting again.

Uh oh; is this going to be a woe is me book? She's bemoaning how she can't be a champion because she didn't know the color of her hair or colors or shapes. Um, she could have asked about her hair color at any point, and it will take her about two seconds to learn colors and shapes. Also, none of that is at all relevant for being a champion.

Now Claire can't stand how bright it is in the morning. Um, she could always see differences between light and dark; regaining her sight doesn't make her more sensitive to light. Sloppy plotting.

Zack started at her.. "I think I might know who your parents were." Desmond looked at him sharply. "You see it too?"

SHOCKER, they think she is fae/elven or a hybrid - just like was so heavily foreshadowed in the first book. My question - if they SEE it now, why didn't they see it before? Her gaining her eyesight didn't make her look any different. This choice makes no sense.

Not starting out strong. We have Claire reflecting that she doesn't know color and then immediately reflecting on the green eyes of one of her men before she learns colors. The last book had a lot of problematic narration as well that would have lent itself better to 3rd party perspective, because she is narrating things she shouldn't know.

Her anklet tracker is small enough to tuck into her bra, which means it is not a typical home monitoring bracelet but probably looks like a, wait for it, anklet. Why the hell couldn't she just wear it? Why would people look at it and think it's anything but jewelry? It was, of course, never described so who knows. I'm so tired of these stupid plot choices that make no sense and missing descriptive detail.

Shiloh just freaked out about not being able to watch slasher movies bc it would trigger her PTSD & then decided to watch GAME OF THRONES, a very violent series. Insert eye roll here. Of course then she gets scared of a scene of men riding horses with ominous music but no violence. Boy holds hand; she's fine now! Binge watching the violence with absolutely no issues ensues - Colt has a magic hand! EYE ROLL
