i am sitting down and putting the god damn phone away and finishing this book so help me god

interesting character, interesting dynamics but unfortunately too many side characters and a bit too abstract of a plot for me to feel truly connected to anything. which ig reflects how lost the main character feels - but i feel like this tackles too much and leaves me feeling kind of nothing instead.

just how closely do i have to remember the story of hamlet to understand this...like i do know it and did study it at one point dont get me wrong but my understanding is now surface level at best

Asleep everytime

unfortunately every time I pick up a book recently I just kinda fall asleep which has a lot less to do with the quality of the book and more to do with me not being in the mood for reading but :(((((

2nd time attempting to read it is the charm (reached 80% on audiobook last time and was like… did I rlly fully comprehend any of it so decided to DNF it) daisy edgar jones im so excited for u

god i was so excited for this and then my reservation came in and since i've alr seen the movie, i started putting it off cuz im so sad its over....but like it'll always exist and so will the perfect seasons so it's fine 😭😭😭

i've genuinely committed too far to DNF and i'm also desperate that the second half of the book will make this somewhat better but i fear i'm grasping at straws. gonna put some florence on and try and finish the rest of this book tonight bcs it is getting me unenthusiastic about reading

also an odd one for me to be irritated by but I don’t love how often ‘fucking’ is used

hmmm I’m not obsessed with this book so far. I like a good amount of it but I’m not taken with the romantic dynamic here yet probs bcs it’s so fast paced (from one side mostly)…and the whole myth thing- genuinely considering DNFing but idk if I’ve given it a fair enough chance in one sitting. also bcs everyone is so obsessed with it.

might be the most boring agatha i've read? initially thought it was a v fun concept to completely flip the usual structure of a ms.marple and have her literally know nothing and be called to investigate kinda like mr.parker pynes but...her knowing nothing means we don't know what's happening and there's a 1000 characters that idc about except for the obvious one and plot reveal which she hasn't grasped? supposedly?

rllyyyy liking this, love the writing + the premise (confusing) is so great - def a bit of a slow-burner which is a shame cuz i have until the 28th to read this

(which is admittedly rlly cool) i'm committed to getting to the end tho just hope something happens

idk how I feel about this man, I’m not hating it but the meta fictional nature of it + the abundance of footnotes make this a semi-tedious read for my
taste personally and the biggest problem I’m facing atm is just how annoying aoyama is as a main character obviously meant to connote the role of the “polite and curious coloniser”.

ok I was unsure of the retrospective narrative style but I am engrossed in it now- reminds me of ‘train dream’ (which funnily enough I thought was v average)

fonda lee is so fucking good at writing such deeply compelling, vicious, brutal but overwhelmingly human characters that she's making me think that maybe i like sci-fi as a genre rather than this and dune being an exception....like what a goddess i would snort her grocery lists atp

ok so I did guess both of the massive plot twists early on but that doesn’t mean it’s bad obviously- this book is v engrossing when you get into it but it is also slow paced, the reveals and the build ups are absolutelyyyy fucking worth it even if it’s predictable in the way the green bone saga wasn’t.
