Another good installment, with Dave showing his age more but still capturing that part of him that can't let things go. Even when it puts him in danger. Because here he's basically on his own for 80% of the book, investigating despite not getting paid for it. Still, he's slipping and can start to see it and the book plays with that well. Cecil remains amazing.

A really strong addition to the series with Dave wading into some heavier crime elements, both gangs and organized crime, and once more following leads past where is safe or wise. But now he has Cecil looking out for him, and while that's still a complicated and messy relationship, it's well captured and compelling. Another tense and twisty read that pays off well!

A tense addition with a growing chorus of "Dave please bring backup" because seriously. But a very twisty mystery, some equally twisty personal stuff with Amanda and her new fiance, & Dave facing getting older while picking up a much younger partner. The big drawback here is despite some mostly-decent autistic rep, the fat shaming surrounding one character was pretty bad, and the bi stuff was questionable throughout

Hmm. Lots going on in this, including some early-ish trans rep, which probably reflects some of the thoughts and realities of the time while still coming through as compassionate and somewhat balanced even now. The mystery itself is twisty and dramatic as Dave contends with his age, the loss of his father and his "stable" job, and the breaking up of a relationship. The ending is wild. Another good one!

I nice return to form following a slightly disappointing third book. The mystery here is solid, and while Dave is distracted by some personal matters, that side of things is more fleshed out and interesting, especially as Dave picks up a little more romantic action. Here we see Dave start to show his age but also power through, running on empty but still very much dedicated to getting to the truth. It's great!

Not quite as good as the first two books, with Dave kinda guessing his way through things and playing catch-up to the end. Some of the personal stuff was interesting, like with Dave's dad and Doug's increasing issues with his mom. But this one just felt a little lacking, especially since I feel Dave really should have known who did it a lot sooner...

Great second book in the series, with a bit more twists and turns and some deep moments for Dave in his investigation and his relationship. Good times!

Finally in a headspace to start reading, and liking it a lot. Compares well to Le Morte d'Arthur, which I am a big fan of. Apparently I just like my violent sprawling huge cast epics.

Lots of fun. Loved the take on the myth, the romance, the action. The ending is swift but feels like it might set up something larger. At least, I hope so.

Wonderful collection!

A wonderful read. The interpersonal drama matches nicely with the big conspiracy and action. The setting is well and quickly built, the characters interesting and fun, and the romantic elements are great, too.

A fantastic story that's really just sweet and fun and funny and good. So many hopeful stories that are pretty low on grimness and shine with kindness and care. Really really good, people!

A fantastic anthology! So many really fun stories and some, yes, that get a bit heavy at times but overall it's such a beautiful collection and joyous and probably just the things for people looking for some wonderful queer SFF!

A wonderful anthology of 8 stories ranging from heartwarming to chilling, but all of them showcasing the strengths of African visions of the future. Most with a strong hope to them, though some filtered through a need to address pressing injustices and corruptions.

An interesting start to this book, which is something of a departure from what I normally read, and apparently has been hanging out in my TBR since 2016. Oops. But quite intrigued by the opening. Part ghost story, part murder mystery. Nice!

Finally got back and finished this and it is a delight! Wonderfully imagined, a rollicking adventure with a great cats and a relentless pacing. Can't wait to check out the next in the series!

A fantastic collection! Devoured it in a day and am glad that it didn't return the favor! Sad that this ends the world tour of monsters that Fox Spirit has done over the years but it's been a fantastic adventure through the myths and monsters from all over. Really liked how this story explored ideas of home and how that's complicated by family and land. So good!

I am so sad that this is it. Not a very satisfying ending, though I still like the volume, for all it's a bit truncated. The play between the MC and his rival/boyfriend is great, though, and that Sherdog likes to pee on people is I guess an interesting kink for him. Still just really fun!

I love the addition of the rival (slash love interest, heavy emphasis on slash)! It's a very fun series, for all that it has some issues with...well, a bunch of representation stuff. Still, I am here for it. A really cute series!

Read this a while ago and catching myself up. A wonderful collection!

about halfway(?) through and it's a stunning collection. every story is a knock-out and it all comes together so well. Very excited to get to the later stories!

Rather delightful so far, in that everything is happening at once and I am guaranteed a running disaster that involves misogynist aliens, telepathic cats, and some messy family stuff that promises to be fun as h*ck. Very much enjoying!

UNBREAK MY HEART! And okay, the work has some brutal moments, but I love how it goes. No justice for one of the characters, but I get the why of it. Just wow, I wasn't actually expecting a happy ending there. Yayyyyyy!

So I guess my prediction about Luc wasn't too far off? I see his chances as slim indeed now, though, unless Nina really does go for the political choice. I've downgraded him to 15%. tbh everyone should just be queer & that would "fix" most of this. Still really enjoying it, though.

WHY DOES SILVIA MORENO-GARCIA ALWAYS BREAK MY HEART?!?!?! Seriously I had to put down the book bc DRAMA!!! Okay. okay. Deep breathes. Eff. I am Concerned where this is going (but like full invested it's so good!!!). Even money now that Nina ends up with Luc pls no I'll cry.

After finishing Gods of Jade and Shadows I decided I'd just jump right into this one, because I deserve nice things. So far it seems to promise the same kind of awesome I look forward to from the author.
