Have a feeling I'm going to have a lot of Thoughts about this one when I'm done.

This is scratching my prolonged Gothic itch and features weird codependent friendships which I'm always here for, but I have some thoughts about the writing. There's a lot that's very nice here and then some lines that are a bit much. Will leave judgment fully on the writing until after I'm done w/ the whole thing though.

Picking this one back up after a brief hiatus. We're up to ~March/April of 1973 and things are slowly coming out. Ready to watch Nixon get WRECKED.

I promise I am still actually reading both Watergate and Let's Do It. I'm not just abandoning every single nonfiction book I pick up. This is my current Kindle read whereas those two are gig reads (for when Jamie's band is playing at a bar).

Gordon Liddy remains a psycho. Also, this story does have a lot of bizarre little details that I love finding out.

I am not unconvinced that there is an alternate timeline where G. Gordon Liddy was a serial killer. Some truly psycho stuff from this man (like when he held his hand over a lighter UNTIL HIS FLESH BLACKENED AND SMOKED to show someone he'd do whatever is necessary).

In theory this is up my alley but ... I have Some Thoughts.

If you have any kind of interest in music and/or history, you need to be reading Bob Stanley. This is just as good as I hoped it would be.

Boy howdy this one's rough emotionally.

Been at this one for about a week or so--there's a lot going on. I'd missed this world. Shannon's writing is so immersive.

This is just as good as I was hoping it would be.

Not actually sure what page I'm on thanks to my Kindle but this is really neat so far.

This is so, so good, and will probably be one of my favourite books I've read this year.

So far this is dope as hell. I know bits and pieces about both Marys but love seeing their stories intertwined. Has kept me reading far into the night.

My favourite running gag in this is Macaire referring to Twelve Angry Men as a book to which others immediately say "it's a play."

I never knew I needed a cross between We Have Always Lived in the Castle and I Capture the Castle ... but this is it and it's hitting all my buttons.

Everybody's called Henry, William, Richard, or Robert. HOWEVER, I'm able to keep everyone straight here, a minor miracle (especially because I read at night when I'm falling asleep and so get confused easily)--definitely a testament to the engaging writing here.

So far I'm really digging this one. The writing is pretty good so far and I like how Lionel's internal monologue fits with a "loud" brain that won't shut up.

I'm more invested than I was previously but I've also been reading this for a week and a half and I'm just ready to be done.

This one's taking longer than normal, but it's good. Also the past week has left me totally exhausted so I'm not reading quite as much as I would before bed.

If I had a nickel for every fantasy book I've unwittingly picked up this year that has turned out to be an adaptation of Shakespeare, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice.

Have been reading this on and off for a month -- not a note on the quality but because I'm balancing about three books at the moment. There's a lot in here for a small volume.

Very enjoyable, want to re-read the Canterbury Tales right now. Feels neat to be reading after seeing an illuminated manuscript of the Canterbury Tales at the British Library earlier this month. (THAT WAS THIS MONTH?? TIME IS FAKE.)

Clearly Decca and Nancy are the best. Unity sucks the most, Diana is a close second, and I wish there was more of Pamela and Diana.

Diana... got married... at Goebbels' house??? WHAT THE HELL

Fascinating portrait of a family so far although I don't super care for the author's "both the far right and the far left were Not Good" stance she takes pretty early on. Like... Unity was literally palling around with Hitler. Decca was reading left-wing pamphlets and was a communist but wasn't like defending Stalin left and right. (Also Jessica and Nancy are my favourites so far, surprise.)

I'm super close to being done with this and it's GOOD. Really hoping it sticks the landing.
