The religious commentary has been kind of meh, but Sophie and Ben finally kissed. Good for them!

Sophie, girl...Ben who is your own age and a teen wants you and you want him, but then you just tried to make a move on Maro who's 8 years older while quoting Wuthering Heights while Ben saw?

Leede is doing a very good job of balancing out the horror moments with the more tender ones. I just read one of the most horrific scenes in the entire book, but she spent enough time to let the dread linger and for Sophie and Ben to try and have pleasant moment in the wake of it.

Sophie, if you're 17/18 falling for a 24-year-old guy, you need to snap out of it. Now, is definitely NOT the time.

The bystander effect during a virus that turns people into rapists definitely makes this entire situation worse.

Sophie was just nearly beaten and raped by both of her infected parents and while sitting traffic an infected man nearly raped another man before a woman beat him to death with a tire iron.

This is going to be fucked up, isn't it?

I think things are finally starting to turn disturbing, for lack of a better word.

Sophie's life is so restricted she doesn't even know what the Amish are.

Oh, I really love Catherine and Hareton! They're so sweet and enduring against Heathcliff's wrath.

Damn, Cathy really hated everyone's asses.

Koja has really captured the mindset of Cathy.

The pacing is very quick, but I like Kathe Koja's prose. Its Gothic and atmospheric enough, but not a replication of Emily Brontë's. So far, what happened to Cathy in Wuthering Heights and Catherine's, her daughter, position have been recapped, but Koja colors their thoughts enough to keep it from being boring.
